Oh what a night.....indeed what a horrible awful terrible time I had:( I will keep it as short as possible as not to bore you all! Setup in the afternoon and the house where I was playing at looked great with the decorations etc.
I arrive at 7.30 playing quiet background music; Dean Martin, Drifters, Del Shannon, The Crickets etc. The beginning of the night goes really well as all my background music is just on shuffle so I can be with all my mates outside etc. (The evening was going to be a very relaxed as the hosts are good friends of mine-but I was still getting paid-bonus!) At around 11pm I started the usual disco stuff. The countdown was fantastic and everyone was up for the long mix! http://www.mobilediscodirectory.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4841&stc=1&d=1230847589
Fireworks were great-phoned mum and grandparents, and then went back on, starting with my favourite song; "Walk of Life-Dire Straits" My father was attending the gig as we are good friends with the hosts. I love him and he does a lot for me, but at the moment he has some drink problem which is bad news. I won't go into too much detail but if it wasn't for him I would have had a great night-instead it was awful.
Anyway the disco is underway and this woman called Claire starts dancing with my dad. They used to go out 20 years ago. He wasn't showing much interest but she carried on. I leave dad and my £1000 laptop for 5 minutes and let the numark cue is do its thing. Whilst I'm gone Claire's boyfriends pushes dad away and deliberately pores half a pint of bear over my pride and joy-the laptop! Dad is so intoxicated he doesn't realize that the boyfriend has done this. 2 minutes after the drama I come back to discover my expensive laptop is swimming in water. I turn the lights on, pull the leads out the mixer, rip the battery out and hold it upside down. The beer pores off it but the laptop frizzles. :( I'm very upset at this point. People came up to me and apologised for what had happend. Then the head of Carlton (ITV) did a speech on my mic. He congratulated me etc and asked if we could have a quick whip around to put some money towards a new laptop.
The party continues with me using cd’s. My cd player then starts to skip as if the motor that turns the cd’s round isn’t working. Dad continues to drink more, and embarrass me. I’m starting to get rather appalled at the way he is acting. I then get a call saying that my granddad is being rushed to hospital as he has had another fit. He suffers from Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. My mum then phones me up, upset as her fiancé and her have just split up.
Then my other granddad that is on warfin starts to have serious nose bleeds at his home. I seem to be the only sober one in the family so have to give clear instructions to him on the phone. An hour later he still has the bleed so I have to leave the party upset and very miffed about the whole evening and get a taxi to his house. I then arrive at his house to discover him in a mess. I call an ambulance immediately and within 20 minutes we are on the way to hospital. (The same mega mix is still playing at this time at the New Years Eve party) I spend an hour in casualty and he is admitted to a ward. This is at about 3.30am. I then get a taxi back to the party and finish my poor, disrupted set. Then at 5.00am till 1.00pm today I’m sat at granddads bedside in the hospital ward. I’m sorry to let of like this but its times like this when I just need to let it all out, because it gets me so frustrated. Dad has simply disgusted me and I don’t want to have anything to do with him for a few weeks to prove my point.
You may think I’m being a mardy so and so, but I have kept this as brief as possible, and believe you me a lot more went on, I’m just too embarrassed and ashamed to say. I’m sorry but it was one traumatic night. My family are just crazy and strange, and I just like to have a bit of normality in life. DJ’ing and doing the thing I love is just a great distraction from home life and allows me to clear my mind of all my worries. Let the music take me away.......but at least there is one positive thing, my laptop is fixed:)I hope you all had a good night, and it wasn’t dramatic as mine! The pictures arnt very good, but let you see how the room was set out. The speakers were either side of me:) I will post the video once its uploaded on youtube.
