Hi Ross,

Relationships can break up regardless of what line of work you're in, and the Christmas & new year period is the most likely time for this to happen.

You're obviously getting the work, as you say December was a busy month, so if you still enjoy discos my advice would be to carry on.

Not a dig mate, but real DJ's never hang their headphones up. ;) I'm keener now than I ever was.
Don't do anything hasty, you've had a hectic and stressful time, lean back and relax. Things may look a lot different in a month. ;)

Not taken as a dig. Yeah maby your right but just now my heart isnt in it any more to tell you the truth maby in a month or two after a break im realy dont know just now.

Yep, that's exactly what I think.

Stressing you out.....you youngsters don't know the meaning of the word stress.

Sorry Ross, but there's only one of you and I assume you live at home without a mortgage or children?

Get a grip. If you want to go travelling then do it, but how can a few bookings in December and losing a girlfriend be stressing you out?

And you never felt the aching pangs of a lost true love in your early life, you miserable old git? :p :D :D

PS. for those below the age of twenty one, it's not actually the end of the world. It just seems like it. ;)

Its not just that its the fact i may be losing my day job and im shatterd after a busy december when ive not been feeling at my best and also other things but i dont expect you lot to listen to my problems. All im asking is for opinions on what i should do give up or carry on regardless as beautiful south sung lol.

So why put the post up then?

I'm seeing more and more of this attention seeking in the last few weeks and IMO it's pathetic.

What do you want people to post?

You are obviously looking for sympathy and I'm sorry you've split with your girlfriend, but to be honest, there are a lot more people with greater problems than yours and you won't be getting sympathy from me.

Ross if i were in your shoes and in the same situation i would go traveling for a bit (year or so). it's the one thing that i deeply regret not doing and as you get older it becomes harder and harder to do.
When you come back pick up the djin again if you want, you have proved you can do it, hell you can even pick up some bar work etc while traveling, best of both worlds

Give up. If you have a 'day job', you don't need to reply on discos do you?

If you can't hack it at your age and don't enjoy it, you shouldn't be doing it. :)

agree 100% - get yourself on holiday with a pal, to tenerife, while their find a job djing or bar work.....live life to the full, and enjoy the good times, coz once your married etc...then you will have more to worry about.

things seem bad now but time and having adventures will help, we all go thru what you are now.

Because I'm a realist and not going to go "Oh poor Rossy, let me give you sympathy"?

I set this forum up to promote best practise and to promote the industry, not to give sympathy to people who are just attention seeking.

God,

this guy is 18 he's tried the business its now caused him a little heartbreak i'm sure this game has done it to all of us..... God I know causeed me to have a break up years ago but we got over it.

Ross walk away for while and if you do have a true love for dj'ing you will be back.

The thing is in this current climate there are guys out there who are reliant on there bookings in order to live and its getting harder and harder to get bookings with venues closing and budgets for entertainment being cut or people just not having the money at present to have partys. Do i see these guys on forums complaining that they are going to pack up no they are working hard and trying to continue the best they can.

Chin up..

Ross, you are young. I don't mean to sound condescending mate but you are 18. You've done well getting the work in and should be enjoying it. Personally speaking, if the girlfriend didn't hang around then she wasn't worth it in the first place. When I first met my missus, I was DJing 5, sometimes 6 nights a week. I hardly saw her but she stuck with me...why?...because she thought / knew it would be worth it and at the end of the day, she loved / loves me. I cut down my DJing a lot so that I could see her more....I'll leave it there as you should get the message there.

I do agree though that if you don't enjoy it, don't do it. It is stupid to do something that you don't like doing. Your busy December and stress (sorry, that made me laugh) may well have put you off but come on.... I have been out working almost every night in December and on occasions, I was ill too but it's my job and a job I love. Stress?....Stress is getting up every morning and going into a job you hate just because you need to be working to pay the bills....that's stress!! Ok, it's hard going out every night DJing and trying to put on a happy face when you are knackered or in the vacinity of countless drunks etc...but it isn't stress.

Have some time off, go travelling if you want but I bet you will be raring to go back behind the decks before long.

Without a girlfriend... there are numerous benefits... no more money spent on her!
More time to do more gigs... meet more women without having to worry about it and make more money to go travelling in a couple of years!!
Sorted..
Carry on!!!

View it as a positive and look forward to a new year!

There's a lot of nice blokes on here willing to give advice and it looks like you've been given some, but in reality the decision is yours. Do what YOU feel is right.

I have to agree with Darren though, your only 18 and this is after all a "mobile disco" forum and not a "Agony Uncle" forum.

Maybe post on a different forum for this kind of situation, you may find a more sympathetic ear.

Happy New Year with whatever you choose to do with it. :beer1: :beer1:

 Priceless, we've all been there while growing up, mine was called Jackie and I only walked 3 miles to be sent away humiliated, she's one ugly mare these days :D I had a lucky escape.

Back on topic, if it was me I'd use the cash I'd just made to take a month off and do a 'Full Moon Party'. for the uninitiated it's an all-night beach party that takes place in Haad Rin on the island of Ko Pha Ngan, Thailand the next one's on the 10th Jan followed by the 10th Feb. Best of all it's cheap and I can't think of a better way to dispense with the cold weather than spend a month on a tropical beach. You could even send the bitch who dumped you a 'wish you were here' card to rub a bit of salt into the wound. It won't do any good, but it would make you feel a whole lot better

I have broken up with lots of serious girlfriends in the past because they could not accept that my DJ'ing work comes first..:D , you have to let the girlfriend go if she can't support you, just lift your head up high and get on with it!!

You talk about "Stress", I met my current girlfriend back in 1993 whilst I was doing a wedding disco (she was a bridesmaid..:D ), in 1994 we married, and now she does our kids disco's and loves it AND we have a 13 year old daughter who now takes dancing lessons because she wants to teach other kids how to dance at the kids disco's, the only "stress" we get now is the mortgage, bills, credit crunch, daughters (they cost a fortune!!)

Dj'ing is in the blood, either you've got it or you haven't, if you're gonna hang the headphones up then obviously you haven't.

Ross, You have had a hard month. Let's face it we have all felt like this after a bad gig and I have wanted to give it up or wonder why I do it but then you will get a gig which is an absolute mind blowing gig and you will get the buzz off it and feel great.

Maybe this is the right time to take a break over January & February while the times are quiet and before the wedding season kicks back in again. Whatever your path of direction Ross, All the best to you and I hope you make the right choice for yourself.

Just look at me ol' mate Batman.....I've never heard him harp on about his situation....and I believe there is another on here - Blitz?.
Plenty of others on here that have had worst but that's life......and all it's rich tapestry.

Perception is reality.

Stress at his age... yeah, it's stressful, and in afew years he'll have a new threshold of 'stressful', it's called gerowing up.

Having done the 'I've lost the only one that loves me' bit I understand how stressful it can seem... it's called empathy :D

It takes a very special female that will put up with all the crap that comes with being with a DJ, we ask a lot from our ladies and if you find one that will take it and encourage you then cherish her and give her all your attention when your not doing the DJ thing.

I screwed up many relationships and my first marriage by not being there when I should and I feel lucky that I've been given a second chance with a wonderful lady who gives me the space I need.

I took a year out, travelled and came back totally re-charged and got straight back into it....I can honestly say that year got my head sorted, what are you waiting for Ross, go for it dude! :)

Sorry if this seems harsh, actually, no I'm not. I'd sooner see this forum full of people like Darren, Shaun, Gary (Shakermaker), Pete & Pete(Soundtracker & Excalibur), Tony & Tony (Penmare & A1DL) etc etc that call a spade a spade & get on with things than a thousand whinging, whining woe is me types or I know best even though everyone else disagrees with me types (no names nessesary).
