My optician does them free of charge anyway, I just pay for the glasses.

seriously though- whats the rational for this?

ultimately it will need to be paid for- where do the funds come from?
higher duty?
taxes on adult magazines?

at a time when the economy is not too clever i'm not sure its a wise idea for the government to start increasing their spending things like this?

scotland get free eye tests? So not only do we in England have to subsidise your economy, we give you free eye tests too, ridiculous!

I dont see the point in free eye tests anyway, most opticians offer free eye tests at various times of the year, so just take advantage of those offers and dont increase your taxes!
