Guys and Gals
If this has been asked before I apologise. Having read through 200 odd threads now I cannot remember what has and hasn't been said.
Anyway. Ooops. As in Ooops upside your head. A classic and I still love it to this day. BUT, that silly sit on the floor thing. I remember the first time I heard this track was in a club in Stamford around 1981(ish) and was taken back by everyone suddenly sitting down and doing the now infamous routine. But where the heck did that idea come from? Anyone????

The holiday camp thing strikes me as a very likely possiblity.
They make up all sorts of daft dances to songs........:D

I think it ruins an otherwise great song.

I don't know. It is all about people having fun. I did it, I wouldn't now but I did, so I say let the kids of today do it too! As mental as the Birdy song, YMCA and any others of the same bag of fun, fun, fun.
The holiday camp idea is probably about right I agree.

Beerfunk,
It's been many weeks since I've disagreed with you, but guess what...the time has come!
Given the choice of punters just dancing on the dance floor to this song or sitting down, doing the rowing boat thing, having a laugh & other people coming in & taking photos of them...I know which I'd prefer. The one that's more memorable.
There again, maybe that's just because I love cheese (due to the reaction it gets) & you don't?

I agree with that! I do mostly 18th/21st birthdays and the Macarena, YMCA etc all the cheesey stuff with cheesey dance routines always get a top reaction!
Got a 16th birthday tonight, I'm thinking the cha cha slide....

I find a lot of people don't actually know the 'sit down dance'. There have been a number of occasions where I have had to physically show them - and that is a sight to behold :D :D

:shrug:No, I'm talking from a personal and musical perspective, Rob.
