No that would have been a mp3 player disco....

Not quoted as yet but after some telephone calls the companys that hire them out are making fairly big money for a very little payout..

I've heard about 'Silent' discos. Not sure it's something I'd want to get involved with, gear wise. Too much to potentially go wrong!
Not to mention damage / theft etc:eek:

I'd glady DJ one with my mixer etc, but would want another company to have responsibility of the headphones bit.

I did the sums about a year ago as I wanted to offer this as an 'Eco' option.

Even using (very) budget gear and making no allowances for breakages/theft the business case was a complete no-go.

Hire might just be the way to go unless you can get yourself identified as a specialist AND the demand increases.

Just a thought, but has anyone cnsidered possible damage to hearing, or is the volume kept at a low level?

Personally i dont see the point, especially in a club. I like to go to a club and feel the bass :) Just my 2 pence worth :)

The idea is to give the customers something different! Also usually you would have maybe two or three different types of dj's playing and the customers would select which one to hear on their head sets. Plus can you imagine dancing away to some classic slow tempo music and your mate is there giving it the "big fish little fish". Its an answer to some places with neighbours who have complained about the music levels and maybe even be an answer to places with sound limitors!

However as has already been posted its alot more damaging to your ears using head sets and considering the amount of head sets needed and the high rate of lost be it theft or damage they arent going to be great quality sound..

I disagree. It's a gimmick.

LOAD OF OLD CRAP!.......I've spent my whole adult life striving to provide an outstanding audio experience so this kind of 'gimmick' really winds me up, if you want to listen to music thru headphones buy an IPOD for :Censored: sake!! :D

My point still stands. :) Cant see there being much atmosphere personally. T In The Park is a bit different IMO. Theres atmosphere there because its an outdoor event and everyones up for that. In a pub half of the atmosphere is the good music and if everyone is sat/stool listening to headphones theres little/no interatction with each other.

Are you seriously suggesting that this gimmick is a valid solution to the problem of sound limiters? And didn't you read the forum recently? The government don't want to bring in sound limiters everywhere. The online petition was a fake built on a story made up to scare people. Even the original petitioner said so.

Besides, it's up to the licensing authority (ie local council) to decide if sound limiters should be installed in a venue. The government have better things to do with their time (apparently!).

surely it would be cheaper to get 100 pairs of earplugs. give them out to people who dont want to listen to the disco. :p

I mentioned this to a venue manager in Hurley on Thames this weekend. The disco was the quietest i have ever done. i mean unbelievable, the crowd were setting off the noise limiter. Did ok but really knocks my confidence.

Surrounded by 7 bedroom houses so no wonder the restriction is so harsh.

You have done Ye Old Bell Darren, how did you find it?

By the way i would steer clear of silent disco unless its not your stuff or you have the appropriate insurance.
