Drum or string?

I did have a set of drums - but sold them.....:(

I'm now after another musical challenge......:)

I would like to start to learn the Guitar.......
Question is ......which is better?
Acoustic or electric?

I'm only trying this for a short time.....so .......do I buy electric or acoustic......yes I know they are cheap but have heard that playing on the the acoustic is best.

I have played electric guitar for 34 years.
My main advice is to spend a a decent amount of money on a decent guitar.
The better ones have a lower string action and wont break your fingers trying to play it. You will also be able to play for longer.

If then you decide guitar isnt for you then you can always sell it on.

Personally I much prefer electric guitar with an effects box.
I use a Zoom 707 pedal and it is amazing.

If your really flush then invest in a guitar synth.

Start at one end and work your way along checking which has the best action and feels good to play.

My current guitar is 15 years old and still plays like new although some of the varnish has now gone from the fretboard. I use a Peavey Patriot.

Whatever you do dont buy a sub £100 guitar as they are rubbish.

A sadly departed friend of mine used to make them.
They were amazing with inlaid pearl etc

I should have added I play my guitar through my disco via a valve mixer.
My 4 by 10inch cab sounds great, with plenty of midrange.

I was heavily involved with reopening the Penrith-Keswick railway at one time.

I have had an interesting career, from motor mechanic through to electronics and software.

No, No I can see that:) It's great...maybe one day you should write a post on how you have developed, the things "you have seen in your time." I know a few others on here have done it, like Garry...maybe it would be worth doing. I know I would certainly read it:)

The amp and valve mixer designs would be too technical for this type of group. I am a member of a DIYaudio group and enjoy helping people out on there.

Back to the OP...

Get an electric! Easier to learn on than an acoustic (less skill required to get sustained notes and so on) and you can plug headphones in (to your amp) and listen to your playing without bugging anyone else :D
