Recommended Headphones

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a decent pair of headphones for my disco setup. Could anyone recommend a good set for about £50-60??

I just don't know which ones to buy as most of them have mixed reviews about breaking with the swivel ones ect and I'm just lost and confused...

I use some Sony ones mdrv 700's.They cost about 80-90 brand new but i got mine off ebay (yes i know) but they were chinnese ones which was the same spec but only £25. Got two pairs nearly two years ago and they both still work but one connection is starting to go but its taken the abuse!. I got some stantons ones from a store which didnt last 3 months!

Speaking of Sony MDR headphones. I bought a cheap set for the house from Asda. MDR-v150's. The sound isn't to bad at all for a very low budget headphone. Total cost....just under a TENNER!!. Perfect for backup!!


My preference though has to be Sennheiser HD 25. Had mine for years. VERY loud and great sound reproduction.

i've used a good set of behringer hpm1000's got em from work, and so far they've only just started to break down thats after approx 4-5yrs of solid work, so thats not really a bad track record i dont think

From what I have heard, Skullcandy headphones are supposed to be rather good.

Think about what you prefer too? I loved closed cup headphones that you can twist and cant stand the Hd25's myself but i know plenty that use them. As your going to be wearing the headphones most of the night you need to get some that you are comfortable with. The Denons already mentioned are meant to be good but never tried them before but i think spending £100+ on headphones is a sensible choice rather than expecting long lasting good quality ones for half that.

The Denon HP1000 are not bad headphones. Quite large but I prefer that to small head phones.

They are around the £100 mark the last time I checked so they are slightly out of your budget.

Thanks guys. I know I should really be spending a good £130 on a set but because I don't have many bookings at the moment (only 2 this year!) then I won't be using them like mad at the moment. I just want some phones that sound good for a sensible price :)

Has anyone heard of or had those headphones I listed? Are they good enough for a beginner DJ?

Skullcandy are fine as "lifestyle" headphones, for any kind of DJing they are not worth the money. We laughed the sales rep out of the store after we'd heard his sales patter on them for DJing. Once we plugged them in, and actually tried them, we saw how awfull they are!

For the budget you've got, get AKG K 181's. They are loads better that Sony MDR-V 700s and come in at £69 (from a selected retailer :D ), so cheaper too!! Google the price, they are worth £100, so for £69 they're a bargain!! Also they have a removable lead, which is handy.

There is NO better headphone for the money!!

Haha. lol.

Well to be honest, they are the best I have heard in a long time. They are very crisp and clean. They do lack bass when at low volume but when you turn them up boy to kick. ;):D

They cover the whole of the ear but the depends on how big your ears are. Mine are quite small so they fit nicely. lol.

In that price bracket of £50.00 or so i would have a look at Pagan Flames recommendation the HD215 which i use at home

The HD25's those are the best without a doubt as everyone said i use hd25s for the disco and qualitywise they are the very best. If money isnt an option go for them.

But for the £50.00 you wont go far wrong with the HD215s they are nice headphones and have a detachable lead and a nice carry bag. They sound good as well.

Me too except mine are Gemini! Dont see paying a fortune for disco headphones which may come in for a lot of hard use. Studio - yes, disco - no. As long as I can cue with them then they are fine by me. I'm more interested in my ears hearing what my speakers sound like than getting hi fi into my ears via a set of headphones. (I do accept that for mixing jocks headphones are more important then for a dj like me.)
