Apart from the pars, movers and scanners, are all the new LED effects basically the same.

ADJ and Acme seem to bring something 'new' out every week, but to me the unit is a different shape and the patterns are slightly different.

When I was at SEDA last week, Prolight introduced a brand new effect that had an orange LED and that was the only difference!

There's only so much you can do with little coloured dots.. the way forward has to be moonflowers, scanners & moving heads with gobos etc, but with LED light sources. But the brightness isn't quite there yet within the average DJs price bracket.

How bright are the LEDs in say an Imposibled? & how many of each colour?

Surely they could make a gobo effect that is illuminated by a cluster of LEDs?

I couldn't agree more. My Impossibled is identical in colours, pattern and effects to my Acme LED Boogie, except the boogie only has two circles, where as the Impossibled has 6.

I have gone for 4 Kam Par 56 LEDs on top for the simplicity of them, they are DMX'able and bulbs won't be an issue as such. I have decided to sell the two ADJ scanners as they are just too old. So in the market for two more scanners. I am seriously considering just getting a pair of cheap and nasty scaners, as long as they are DMX. I cannot see at this stage any huge advantage for me in buying a pair of dynatwins, which was my original idea.

Having seen Tony's set up last night it struck me that although he has some great scanners, a scanner is basically a scanner. I would rather cut back on them and sling a Kam star cluster (not the 3D) in on top.

Just my thoughts. But the LED has its pro's and con's. If they could replace the single halogen type bulbs with a single bright LED, yep I would go for that too. I don't know if that is even possible though.

You have with the moving heads - Acme Genesis and the ADJ X Move moving head plus with the ADJ X Move scanner with their 20 watt LED which is adequate in brightness for the majority of "social club/function room" gigs.

Moonflowers are coming!!!! (well within the next 2 or 3 months)

There are certainly a lot of similar effects, however this is no different to, say, 250w moonflower effects - many different brands and various shapes & size of case, however many similar effects.

LED technology has certainly brought a refreshing shake-up to mobile disco lighting. We started stocking LED effects under a year ago, and in this short time have sold dozens of the highly acclaimed Moonmaster X, similar quantities of the Zoom Vayron Cluster Laser and quite a few LED Showlight Pro boxes.

Stock of the long awaited Orbitron 4 was delivered in December and these are already attracting good interest and selling well.

We love LED effects :)

Yes, but 250w moonflowers have different gobos Tony. The cheaper LED effects are just dots, with most just a few colours, making them hard to differentiate between them.

Halogen flowers had different colours, slightly different effects and lots of different gobos.

As has been said, i think that the lighting with gobos wont change much, except for the introduction of a single LED as a light source. We will still have scanners, moving heads and moonflowers, its already starting to happen :)

I think that in the future it will be the Datamoon (insert any make) LED. Cant see them changing the casing/gobos/design, as it works, just the light source. That way the can continue trading on a well established name.

Sorry Steve, completely missed it :o A cluster would work very well IMO. Ive a torch that has 3 of the little blighters and its just as bright as any of my lighting.

Motorway warning signs now use very high power LED's but they are a silly price for disco use.

Doesn't matter. If it takes a cluster of LEDs to achieve the desired effect then so be it.

I just think that a lot of these lights are all samey because they're probably all designed by the same people.

So why not put our heads together and see if there's something we think they could make?

Could use a seperate gobo and color wheels or maby have a cluster of led's like the impossibled for example. That way you get movement from the leds and well as changing colors.
