View Full Version : ATX motherboards
I think I already know the answer is but need to check.
I'm going to slim down my current pc as it was built for gaming but I dont play games on it no more. Just listen to and record music and surf the net.
My question is will a standard atx motherboard fit inside a micro atx case???

Nope Mico ATX is jsut a small ATX Standard ATX are quite big and wont fit in a Mixo AXT case.
That's strange because I have seen some rather large micro atx cases on the market.
I think Ill just go for a new motherboard and case. Just been checking stats and I get to keep all my current pc stuff already. Just no sli thats all. lol

They may be a large micro atx case but inside it would stil only fit a micro atx board.

With the prices of computers as they are at the moment, you may find it's not much more to buy a new computer.

I understand where you are coming from but I would like to keep the parts I am using. I have no decided to build a recording computer. No need for fancy graphics, just power from CPU and Ram, job done.
Found board which can support 8gb but XP 32bit can only see 3gb. :(. Still, I have the space to expande if need be.
Just wanted a small computer as I need other space for rackmount gear for audio processing. Get a nice flat sound to do my recordings. :D:D:D

If you're buying XP you'd better make it quick - MS stop selling it after 31st January (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/default.mspx).
Thanks for the heads up Marc. :)
Just been thinking about it and I might hold up for windows 7. I have the beta but have yet to try it out.

a mirco atx motherboard will fit a standard case, but a standard motherboard doesnt fit a micro case, many motherboards do support 8gb ram but theirs other things to look at like, usb ports, audio, ide/sata ect ect. what processors and fsb is can handle and stuff, but its all fairly easy
