For some reason I seem to be a bit paranoid about leaving something behind after a gig.

I walk around 2 or 3 times looking for that forgotten item.

What have you left at a gig ?

I usually spend a few minutes looking over the area where I have worked for the evening.


The only thing I have lost was a roll of duck tape and a few velcro ties. Nothing too majoy yet and don't plan too either. lol.

A coiled mains cable, a camera battery charger and stupidly a large Scottish Rug when working with Corabar Steve--which Steve kindly handed back to me next time we worked together :D

I understand the Corabar cat quite liked it;)

It came out again last Friday for a Burns Night function ( the rug )

Somehow I "lost" a giraffe tripod base sometime last summer. I only used it occasionally and the next time I decided I wanted it for something is when I discovered it had gone.

On the flip side though, I'm always "finding" things that I don't recognise :o - last week I came across an 8-way power strip (I only use 4's and 6's) and I'm amassing a nice collection of mic stands :confused: Overenthusiastic (or just plain tired) roadie!!

I think one outweighs the other financially.

I left a 4-way plug adapter at a venue once, luckily it was my (at the time) residency, the girl behind the bar produced it the following week asking if "this was mine" :)

I've almost left my specs a few times as I take them off whilst packing down. Usually remember them when I get in the car to set off as I need them for driving.

But like most, I usually have a couple of good look arounds where I've been set up to avoid leaving something.

I left my banner behind. Got a phone call two days later saying it was still at the pub! Never relised that I had left it. Woops

I always check my work area a few times after I've loaded up just to make sure something isn't hiding or that i haven't dropped anything.

To this day I don't think I've ever lost or left anything behind (Or at least to my knowledge).

I have been known to pick this up at gigs tho. I've got a Carling Ice bucket and several CD's customers have asked me to play but never collected.

I can honestly say I've never left anything behind after a disco, probably because I'm always very careful to check & double check the entire area where I was before leaving.

However, I did once leave an extension lead behind after one of my pub quiz nights. I got chatting when packing up, and simply forgot about it (I only use it at this particular venue) & left it taped down in front of the entrance to the ladies toilets.

The next day, when sorting out my quiz box for that night, I noticed the lead was missing, knew where I'd left it & phoned the pub, only to be told the landlord had discovered it & put it behind the bar for me.

The left a B&Q truck about 8 years ago somewhere.

I have left a full bag of cables at a private home from a 21st (was rung the following day about it as I hadn't yet realised). Never left anything at a venue that I can think of as I, too, do a once or twice over the area and nearby drop-and-roll locations... well, I did once leave my belt in the men's toilet after changing to pack down.

I always emptied the van of the smallest, most easily stolen items of significant expense back in NZ. I did once accidentally leave a bag on my front driveway, all night and much of the following day, after emptying the van in this way. I walked out the front door at around 1pm to see my gig bag:
1 Acer Laptop (database only, at that time, but highly important)
2x248 CD wallets (all original singles, many irreplaceable)
clip-on desk lamp
pen
paper
spare connectors
&c

It hadn't dropped below 12 degrees C the whole night, it hadn't gone above 18 degrees C that day (yet), it hadn't rained, and the sun hadn't yet cleared the house so it hadn't suffered from direct sunlight, yet, either... Phew!

Right folks, brace yourselves. ;) One night I didn't go home with everything. Discos two nights running, in the days of trailer and car. The first night had ben very windy, and on coming out, I was relieved to find the trailer still safe. I loaded up, and went carefully home. Out the next night, and and arive at the gig, and open the trailer, but am surprised I don't have to stoop to enter the trailer. :confused: :confused: Reason being, on the windy way home the night before, the roof blew off! :eek: :eek: :o :o :o
The following morning, we go out in the car, find the roof in a field, strap it to the roofrack, and take it home and refit it to the trailer. :D :D

Left my bag with my laptop, hard drives and serato scratch last sunday. Had help packing away (dad as ive crashed my car :o ) and it threw me completely. Luckily it is a social centre with a Gym i use so i phoned and got it put away.

i've got one, that's not so much what did you forget to take away, but more like, what did you forget to do before you left:-

Went in the trailer in the week to get screwdriver and thought, i won't lock it up as i'll double check it before i leave.

Day of the gig rolls round, forget about leaving it unlocked and merrily drive about 20 miles with the roller door all the way up, all the gear on show including 4m of trilite truss that sits on the top of the gear, (v pleased this didn't fall out along a busy A road).

The only person that flashed me and tried to stop me was a lorry driver (which at that point i did and discover the back of the trailer open) was after about 20 miles.

Luckily i didn't lose any equipment, but i did lose my large UDJ record back which contained 3 full case logic cases of CD's, including my entire CD pool classic beat collection, about two years worth of pop beats and a good number of pop and club beats, and two album cases many of which i'd had for a good 8years or so.

i'm a bit paranoid about this now and:-
1:- always lock the trailer if i need to go into it during the week.
2:- always feel the need to stop after 1/2 mile on the way home to double check the trailer, can't think why......

I once left my engineers tool case in a pub carpark after packing up, this had in it around £1000 worth of tools and test equipment...went back the next morning to find it sat there in full view untouched! Lucky lucky boy...:)

I was half naked at the time and had to jump over my fence into next doors garden then jumped over their wall to get back in my front door !

This kind of happened to me - the lock and loop fastening bit came off the bottom of my trailer and the rollershutter went up. Of course knew nothing about this until a person pulled alongside me to tell me. I had been on the motorway and was on an road when I was stopped. I must have packed it well as nothing moved and nothing fell out either, thank god!

As the lock and fastener had come off completely, I had to attach the door to a case of CDs to hold it down as I didn't have anything else to attach it with.

When I got to the gig 30 mins late, there were people out looking for me - pikeys. Lots of them out in their pickups and old cars. I won't tell you how it finished, but suffice to say I packed away very quickly and without any money..(this is why I insist on payment in advance now)

I've never left anything behind as (blimey, I'm agreeing with Nigel), I am paranoid about leaving stuff so I also check round the venue before I get in the van and go. I remember once though (slightly off topic), when I was in my band and we played at the Astoria, I left my Synth in it's flightcase up against a lampost as it was the last thing to go in the van as it was a tight squeeze and had to go across someone's lap. We drove off up the road and were at the traffic lights when we noticed the synth wasn't there! I got out, ran round the corner and luckily it was still there....over £1000 worth of synth just propped up against a lampost - In 1988, that was a lot of money! (still is).

Sound's like you had a very lucky one!

I was amazed that was all i lost after tearing along the very worst of the best Fenland roads with the back open.
