Equipment pack up.

I pack up early, check equipment, and generally have all my stuff together in good time..


have been known to arrive at venues 3-4 hours before kick off.

Er no--check the car/ van is working fine by going round the block or maybe fill up with juice on the actual day before loading--just in case---unless not unloaded from the night before:D

Van lives in a secure garage so only the laptops & music come indoors.

Van contents can change dramatically depending on the last gig/next gig, but if there's no changes to be done, I tend to whip the van out a couple of hours before the gig just to double-check it starts etc. and that's as much prep as is needed.

I usually load the motor about 2 hours before i go out.

With keeping the gear in the house I have to do 2 loads and 2 uloads.

All of my gear is in a lock up apart from a spare set of JBL's and my Denon which sit in the spare room. I load up just before I leave, the reason being is that when I pack up my gear after a gig, I put everything back where it was before in it's designated place.

I used to pack in the morning, check, double check, triple check .............
Now I wait till about an hour before leaving, pack, shower, then go. I rely on my packing away after a gig skills. I found by checking too much I place doubts in my head.

My Truss, Stands, Sub-bins, Bass-bins and Mid-hi's stay in the van 24-7, all the lights, pc's and amps/processors/mixers are all that need to be loaded so
I tend to do it an hour before I go...

...the VW is only 8 weeks old so I hope it's reliable enough to not worry about this aspect, but you never know?? :)

If by "Pack up the equipment" you mean load the van or car, I load up two or three hours before I leave for a gig.

It can be anything to do with packing up your equipment.

It takes me 24 hours but I load the car about 30 mins before I leave for a gig but all equipment is checked over and make sure everything is packed correctly.

For example, I am sorting out my cables for tomorrows gig now. :)

I used to do that before adopting the 'big box' method

I use the medium size box for cables.
I always carry spare mains fuses and amp fuses just in case as well as a few tools.

I have to borrow my brothers 3.5 tonne luton when my full sound rig goes
out, it's only about 6 or 7 times a year but is a 2hr procedure to check, re-check and load........I'm glad it's not every week now!

my gear lives permantly in the trailer, the only thing i check and double check is that i have my computer and also my tux shirt and suit bag

Cables are kept in a cable trunk, which i try to pack away neatly at the end of each gig, oh and i put my mirror ball on the back seat of the car.

I generally do this about 10 mins after the time that i decided I should leave earlier in the day.

I've learned the benefits of putting everything away properly at the end of a gig so loading up is really easy. All the gear is stored in the spare room and there's a place for everything. Makes it easy to pick kit for each gig.

I don't really check anything or sort out any cables, as they're all kept in the same case.

All I have to remember to do before loading the van is to put my ipods into my disco box & take my SM58 out of the quiz box & put that into the disco box as well.

Everything always goes into the van in the same way, so if I'd forgotton something, I'd notice. However, I always double check my bedroom (where all the gear lives) before leaving for a gig, just to be on the safe side.

Thankfully never forgot anything but had fuses fallen out of plugs which i had to take out of other plugs!

In my cable trunk i have all the leads that i use regularly and lots of spares, including a repair kit, with spare bulbs, fuses, tools, bolts etc etc.

So if a lead or connector broke on the way, i'd just use a spare one that i'd have with me anyway.

Also in the bedroom.

All the gear lives on a long thin sheet of MDF along one of the walls.

It's a double bedroom with a built in wardrobe, so there's plenty of space for the bed, bedside cabinet & chest of drawers as well.
