Mirror balls

Which is best 2 mirror balls at 12inchs or just one bigger one at 40cm+, cheers damian

in my experience big ones are only good when you can get the lighting far enough away- ie if you are planning on using a couple of pin spots a few metres away you might be better off with small ones.

However giant balls have more of a "wow" factor.

As i've a 30 cm and with 2 x 250 watt lights....it's good enough.....BUT...40 cm....does get the wow factor..:)

Used to have one in the eighties, it was a pain to get it high enough and illuminated effectively, this was before the days of cheap scanners etc. and trying to do it with par36 cans was a challenge for mobile use.

hello, what am trying to do is create the perfect "standard show", basicly i want it to be quick to dissmantle, easy to put up, and pack a punch when its in action, so what ive been thinking is this

1 x miracled
2 x imove 5s
2x or 1 x mirror ball
then maybe 2 other effects like scanners or moonflower type things for on the rig
2 x led par cans for basic uplighting.

i think this would work, but then agian i think it might be pants, cast me some views please experts, follow pikester, do you have a date for when the stand can come into my ownership ? :D , cheers damian

The mirror ball I have is a 50cm one, it looks great, but the bottom of it is 2ft below the truss, so unless you can get your stands high enough it will either obscure you from view, or you'll be banging your head on it all night.

I've never used one, but a colleague of mine is of the belief that just one mirror ball makes people dizzy and to avoid this you need two spinning in opposite directions. So thats also something to consider.

I've just started to notice that with mine. If you only have the 1 effect on and no other lighting after a while of staring at the beams flying across the room you start to feel a bit dizzy.

I currently use 1 ball but could be persuaded to go for 2. Only use 2x 100w scanners (dynamo's:o ) to light it but have thought about using 4 Dynamo's or upgrading to a pair of 250w Dynamo's.

Use either a DMX controller and program scenes for the mirror balls or do it manually via DMX or via a CA8 controller.

You wait till the moving head is pointing at the mirror ball and then wedge the controller underneath the head to stop it moving about :D :D :D

No doubt Nigel will have a more technical solution.

Sorry not very helpful as I don't use moving heads :o

Press the bottom button until the led is flashing quickly. You can then use the middle button to move the heads manually to the position you want.

After using them on normal s2l, when you press the bottom button again, they will automatically return to the position you set them at
