Video Editing Software

Hi guys just wondering if you can help me out.

Currently i have a couple of videos on my site to show
what i do however i had a look at Darrens promo video which
was fantastic. Does anyone know of free video editing software
that will allow me to do one video but with clips of maybe two or three different events. Would need to "link" from one video to the other rather for example the incoming clip comes in from the right to overlap the outgoing clip.

Yes was yours Darren. I was thinking of doing a couple. One with 18/21st birthdays and another for weddings. You get many comments from customers about it? I dont like linking to youtube off my site but bt dont let you embed videos.

Yeah I have Sony Vegas and I love it. I'm really into movie making etc..

Just to say sorry guys about the details for that party, I wont put them on next time. People call and I just refer them to here. I have had a lot on so have not managed to check my p.m's. Please don't have a go...

As someone who does videoediting at work... I use Adobe Premiere. Horribly expensive and does loads more than you usually need:)

I'd also say Movie Maker. That's what I use for YouTube type stuff. It will render to wmv ready to upload to the web quite quickly, and it will hold your hand so no need to get worried:D

Just ensure you always set the output to 'file for my computer' or whatever it is, otherwise it will want to upload direct to the web and then loose the rendered file when you say NO!:(

The only way round putting videos on your site is to either link to a hosting site (such as YouTube) or move your site to a webhost that will allow you to do it.

Not a great deal - it's more there for reference, in case people want to see what mirror balls look like or other lighting looks like in action.

As I said, it was done very quickly for a wedding fayre, so that I has something to show clients.

I use sony vegas, probably because i've been used to using soundforge & acid pro when i was in a band, vegas has the same interface as them, so it was a shorter learning curve

movie maker is ok i suppose, but you'll find out it has it's limitations, remember the old saying 'you pay for what you get'

If you're serious about making a good promo for your business i'd recommend going for one of the budget video software range, they're pretty much the same as the professional software, but with the 'pro' features omitted. something like that would be ideal i think to get you started

I use Movie Maker and Muvee AutoProducer as, like Sleah said, they "hold my hand"!. Makes everything an absolute doddle!

If you want email me the file and I'll encode it so that you get HD (or at least HQ) on YouTube. HD needs widescreen though, not sure if yours is or just 4:3?

Not a bad little movie but wouldn't have had a black screen for quite that long at the end.

Instead of the black screen, why not put your company name and/or logo? This would be very helpful in getting people to remember your name/logo.

Im naturally taking cameras to every event and hoping to improve the video clips and also get a broader range of events. In regards to the end the sound file is 3.39 so hence why it carries on so either need to fade it towards the end of the filming or pad it out abit more.

As promotional video it is top 3 I have seen. I have seen some good and bad promotional videos.

You captured the dance-floor with people enjoying themselves and in some parts it appears you are interacting with them.

I would recommend that more footage is included of people enjoying themselves. As i felt majority of the video was spent looking at your set up. I would suggest 75% of people enjoying themselves from different angles, not from behind your kit.

Do not limit yourself. About 2m 13 in to the video the following text is displayed

"Our compact set up means we can provide discos in small venues"

This is becomes a double edge swore. What If I'm a potential client and I hiring a big hall with a big stage?

I would recommend not pointing out the obvious. Towards the end about 2m 30 in to your video, the following text is displayed

"Our discos are nice and bright and yet compact"

After replaying the video about 5 seconds the following text displays

"Welcome to our video!
Here will show you just what we provide instead of telling you about it
Tel: 07979 928283"

This is clearly visible from the video.

2m 46 in to the video it displays the following text

"We take pride and care in our service to you which starts even before the night"

I would recommend exploring this more and demonstrating within your promotional video.

2m 55 into the video you display the following text

"To every event we take our entire musical libary. This allows us to play music to match the type of event and also the crowd. Customers are welcome to have as much input over the lighting and musical policy as so wished"

Please check your spelling on Libary as I think its spelled incorrectly. I am not the best in English as I scored higher in German at school and I'm English.

Recommend spacing out the text and also did not have time to read it.

This would be a big no no for me. Not as customer as DJ. This to me personally is opening a can of worms.

Us a business give them input if a strobe, smoke or laser can be used. If they want something special like £2,000 light to generate the effects they require and you cannot comply with open other cans of worms.

The music policy is address by the playlist we recommend our clients to send to us.

The trick is to let them think they are in control, when it is the case you are actually in control. Usually the end of the night, the person who thinks they are in control forgets they are in control and enjoys themselves. Unless you get the right one LOL.

You could add more visual content throughout the movie or you could stretch the visuals out on the timeline a bit more.

Personally, I would simply add a name/logo splash screen at the end and slowly fade to black in time with a fade in audio volume. Really simple but I believe simple can be very effective.

Now that it's on my site, all I need to do is get some some footage then the video page can go 'live'.
