Does anyone give discounts on block bookings ie Christmas party nights ?
My reason for asking is a venue I play very regular at have finally got their act together and are really improving and as a result my bookings there are increasing dramatically. They have handed me a list of 12 dates in December for party nights plus they want 2 discos running on NYE. On top of this, at the moment I have confirmed bookings for over £9000 if work there so far this year, with further enquiries coming in weekly and next year looking to be even busier.
I have worked out my full price costs but was thinking of offering a discount. I am not sure how much discount to offer though. On top of this I will also be providing a disco for their staff party in January, again not sure about discount ??
Any opinions ??

Why not offer 10% off the bookings and do the staff one for free?

The freebie for the staff was a thought as they do pay for a taxi home for me so I can have a couple of :beer1: :beer1:
One other thing I forgot to mention is that at this venue, as from April I will have a full setup installed permanently so there will be no setting up or packing away. (apart from mixer/cortex console).

I would say that unless they were prompting you for a discount, why offer? Might as well stick a wad of tenners on the fire.
I'd be inclined to provide benefits in kind, as it were, for example the second NYE rig for half price, the January party for free etc. but on the understanding that a particular threshold had been exceeded. No point agreeing to a freebie on the basis of 12 December gigs if 10 of them subsequently cancel.

Some good points Vectis. As far as cancellations go, it is highly unlikely due to confirmed bookings and deposits they have already received - although anythings possible.
I am now also considering the following : Free staff party and free uplighting for the NYE gigs, and uplighting at one party night which is a Sunday Party night for a corporate gig.
I am still 'throwing ideas in the air'. I am spending a lot of time making desicions for this venue as they really are improving their service and bookings, they have always stuck by me and can see the bookings received from this venue being a good 'cushion', especially now this is my full time job.
I also know there are quite a few DJ's trying to get into this hotel, which has not worried me too much as they have had the £100 jobs in and appreciate the difference a good disco can make, not only to the customer but to assist in raising the hotels profile.

business is business, i would just offer them a free party for the staff at the end of the year, complete with uplighting, dont start dishing out the free stuff just yet, as they might walk wonders, then uve lost out.

I think that your on the right track to throw in extra bits and peices such as uplighting etc. Ive had my fingers burned previously with offering discount, then having gigs cancelled.

Cheers Steve, whilst I have never had a problem with cancellations, I do have a few regular venues which I offered discounts to when I moved to this area to help build up my business. However those venues and organisation expect that same price to continue regardless. I have in fact lost a couple of venues due to this. It sounds good at the time as there is some form of income coming and you are getting your name about, but it is only a short term solution and can work against you in the long term.

their bust, what has that got to do with this, ppentertainments, stated he offers a discount then they expect it to stay the same, so clearly state, somthing like price freeze for 2 months only, then betime they rebook you the price would of been restored.

Just an example to prove that shops don't always get it right.

Does anyone give discounts on block bookings ie Christmas party nights?
I'm sure many people do this, as it seems to be the general practice in business (whether selling products OR services) that the more you want, the cheaper it works out for each one.
With products, I can buy a small can of baked beans for a certain price. However, if I buy a standard can (double the size) it will cost LESS than double the price. Similarly, a pack of 4 cans will work out at less per can than if you buy 4 cans separately.
It's the same with businesses offering services.
If I hired a car for 2 weeks, I'm sure the equivilent daily charge would work out at a fair bit less than if I only hired the car for 2 days.
If I have my buildings insurance AND contents insurance with the same company, I will often get a discount, as I have TWO policies with them rather than just one.
If a decorator quotes me £1,000 to decorate my flat, I'm sure he'd quote less than £20,000 if I owned & wanted him to decorate 20 flats.
Discos giving discounts on block bookings is no different to giving discounts to venues where we are the resident DJ, or venues that recommend us & give us a fair number of bookings each year etc etc.

I discount one of my regular places during December but they are a very big client.

and what stops them pulling out ?
ppentertainments, i would strongly suggest you have some very strong T&C'S in place for this.

If your going to have your kit there and they are already offering you work in dec then they sound pretty happy with what you provide. I dont know the ins and outs of your set up but why not offer increased percentage discounts once a thresehold has been hit. Say if you invoice monthly then after £500 you get 5% and over £1000 10% and so forth.
