Need help guys!

Ok, here`s the deal. My friend is opening a club and he wants my band to play there on weekly bases. There is no audio system installed yet so we have to start from scratch. The club is reproducing the 80` disco atmosphere, therefore aside my gig, the sound system will have to be able to accommodate 250 (ish) people dancing to disco music. The band will be placed in sitting area 2 (see diagram). I need a sound system for the dance floor (entire room) and sitting area 4. Also a smaller system for the bar area. I was going for 2x YAMAHA MSR400 and 2x YAMAHA MSR100 for the dance floor, and 2 YAMAHA MSR100 for sitting area 4. Having seconds thoughts thou. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What type of band is it?

You will need bass cabs to get the low end (bass and drums) through in a busy club. so i'd definitely look into that. clubs can really swallow up the bass drum and toms.

do you have a foldback system for the band?

and just to give us an idea of what 'front line' you will need - what do you have backline? ie amps and their wattage?

We are a rock band. No foldback system, just sold everything, looking for an upgrade. I went for Yamaha active system to avoid amp problems and faulty wiring. Thinking of hanging the speakers from the ceiling for better coverage.

youll still need bass cabs for the drums and bass guitar as a minimum, and a foldback system so you can guage what is going on out the front - especially the vocals.

any idea of budget?

Budget- ~2700. Not nearly enough, but at least until my fried gets his place working, this will have to do.

I went for Yamaha active system to avoid amp problems and faulty wiring.

Buying an active system won't avoid amp problems, well not compared to separates, unless you bought a horribly inappropriate missmatched system.
Bear in mind, if you pop an amp fuse, or it does go faulty, you have the problem of having to take down a speaker cabinate, which may be no easy thing if it's strapped to the ceiling. Also, you can't monitor what's going on by checking clip leds or even checking temperature when speakers are spread out and mounted up.

The same for wiring, indeed I'd favour passive anyday for wiring an installation system!
Passive speakers can be wired with suitable gauge mains flex which tends to be more robust and forgiving than balanced screened cable (which is what you really need for an active system).

Oh, you'll also have to have mains power installed to the speakers if they are active. You won't get away with simply lashing a load of extensions around the place.

I use mains wire for speakers too.

I found when I was playing and singing I needed a monitor so I could hear what I was singing.

A lot of bands use a sound engineer to get teh sound right from out front. I would highly recommend this to stop the war that can start between band members thinking they are not loud enough.
One turns it up a bit then every one follows and before you know it it is far too loud.

i dont think your budget is anywhere near enough, you could probably put in a good system for the 80's music, but not upto the band nights. Personally id do a good job with the normal music system and you can hire in extra PA for your own gig each week. Negotiate a deal with a local company for a regular hire

As for the sound system, dont go active, it doesnt work well for installs, plus its double the cable to run around the place
