Ive got a disco coming up that is going to be packed with servere epileptics....

They only want a smaller system so i was looking at purchasing 2 Vango Arcs (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=219232&C=Froogle&U=219232&T=Module YouTube - Vango Arc-150 ) and a Soundlab Verin (http://www.discostudio.co.uk/item.php?upn=14389 YouTube - My new toy )

Does anyone use these, if so what are they like?

Also, general info/comments very very welcome :)

Cheers

Steve

What lights do you have already? It's my understanding that photo sensitive epiliepsy is only sensitive to lights over a certain flash rate, which most normal lights would be well below.

http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/info/photo.html says that extreme cases can be sensitive to 3Hz.. which a normal scanner/moonflower etc. wouldn't flash as fast as.

If it was me I would only use par cans, just in case with a slow fade rate.

But, the first link seems ok as the light is always moving. Not to sure about the second light. Seems to judder a little bit imo.

I would have been taking Acme Pumas and a MiracLED. Ive already shown the lighhting to one member of their family and they have said that it would be hit and miss. Alot of the guests are epileptic to the most extreme case from what i gather.

I know that the Puma can be set to just rotate on one specific gobo which will be fine but im not sure what the Miracled does with the CA8 as that was the one causing most concern.

Cheers Tom. I was thinking a similar thing, but they want Parcans as uplighting. :)

Cheers Steve. I did think that the Verin may need smoke, and the venue wont allow the machine.

As you all well know, I don't normally do tasteful. ;) :D However, when I do, I rate these ever so highly. I believe Corabar Steve has some of these. 250w, and you can put them on static, with colour changing.

Edit. As they're basically a projection unit, they are better without smoke.

Cheers Peter, you wouldnt have a video clip have you. Youtube brings a blank.... :)

I do quite a few such gigs for the local special olympics guys.

I use a pair of Acme Dynarolls tied to a DMX desk and set to roll really slowly around the room with very infrequent colour changes. Add a bunch of LED PARs on a very slow fade and a few lasers pointing into roofspace and you're done.

You simply mustn't run with StL units that can dance around too quickly or which have strobing as part of their sequence. Professional advice suggests that faster than 3 flashes per second is not tolerable; in reality it's just not worth taking the chance.

Yes, but I thought I'd drawn a blank. :D Same light, different name/badge. You can stop the rotation, and /or you can stop the gobo change. The colour change is gradual, and cannot be altered.

If smoke can't be used, i'd be inclined to use LED pars & projection lights like Datamoons/Magic gobos DMXed to be calmer.

I was wanting to get away with not DMXing for the smallest package, which they want. Cuts down of work and what i take with me :) I think its just a case of using the Pumas and Miracled with DMX, or the CA8 if it calms the miracled down :)

i have 4 of the zoom virusators, great lights, pretty effect and bright!

horrifically unreliable though....but for £30 each, not worth sending back!

they stop moving in middle of gigs, they are heavy as hell and have the noisiest fans known to man

That wallpaper is horrible. :D

I would stick with that then. Parcans on their own will produce enough of an effect if they are placed round the room and if you are really worried about it, they are the obvious answer.

i was once told by a friend who ran a special needs home where alot suffered from Epilepsy, that severe Epilepsy sufferers can be triggered by Loud Noise just as much as flashing lights. Also a light moving past their eyes is the same as strobing (ie a barrel effect moving over their face)

ive never checked out the facts on this as i took it to be true, but it didnt really affect me anyway

Can anyone shed any light (excuse the pun) on this one?
