Lighting Rig advice for begginner

I am helping my 16yr old son set up a disco, I did the same thing at his age, and had a blast.
He will be playing mainly small halls and to an U18 audience I am looking to spend around £500 max.
Heres what we're considering:
4ft Blacklight UV £15 rather than the Cannon UV at £120
Orbitron 4 @ £90
PAIR ZOOM ScatScan Twin 200w £100
He will also need a lighting controller, Staging rig & smoke machine so any advice and additions appreciated.

welcome,. i don't know the zoom lights so can't really comment on them,but would be worth comparing them to acme dynamos,think for what your son will be doing you could do a lot worse then a set of 4 dynamos running off a ca8 controller and a impossiled as a centre piece.remember not all places allow smoke machines now so dont waste too much money on one.always find out from the venue before you start if your allowed be nothing worse for him then setting off smoke alarms.

They suggested the LED Dynamo's

The dynamo's are by a long shot the best budget scanner. Can't beat them for the price.

But you must keep in mine that the LED versions are just coloured dots. I think as said before 4 Dynamo's (100w or 250w) and an ImpossibLED would be a good start.

LED Dynamo's will not work well with the ImpossibLED as they both use coloured dots so stick with the halogens/gobo units.

Also the Dynamo's are cheaper when bought in 2's or 4's.

the 100 w version they are very good,they are very bright for 100w.i would love to see them side by by with the 250 version to compare the difference between the 2.but for what your son isd going to need 4 x 100w would be good.would not recomend the led version at the moment.

I have recently bought 4 x ACME Dynamo's with Flight Case (for £350) and I think they are brill!

We do a lot of 18th's/21st's and they are ideal lights.

Seems to be general feedback that LED are not the ones to go for. I think we're also going with the impossibled. Would the 250's drown out the impossibled?

run them seperate,i.e when the impossiled is on the dynamos are off and then switch them round gives a bit of variation,that way you get the best from both sets of lights
