Phone rings..

It's a 'lady' (must be joking).
"Is that Shakermaker Productions?"
"Yes, Shakermaker Promotions, how can I help?" I reply.
"Could you give me a quote and your availability for 25th April for an adults disco from 8pm - 11pm?" she asks.

I do the usual stuff, ask how many attending, where the venue is etc etc and as I am in the middle of explaining my services.....she interrupts me and says the following:

"Sorry, but I am kind of in a rush here. We have been let down by another DJ and I don't want to :Censored: about here all day. Can you just give me a quote. I don't want any strobes or some :Censored: that isn't going to say anything on the mic. I don't want any of that Rap or RnB :Censored: just a good range of music from the charts etc with some cheesy stuff"

"Ok" I reply..."I can do that no problem"
"Are you sure?" she asked..."I used to work on the bar in Liquids and I don't want any of that :Censored: those DJ's used to play"
"That's not a problem" I replied

I quoted her a price lower than usual as the duration is shorter than usual and the venue is 10 minutes away.

"You're joking!?" she said "We're a charity, can you go any lower than that?"
"I'm sorry but I can't go any lower than that" I replied..."If I quote you this price and you agree then it means I am booked for that night at lower than I would normally go out for and I can't go elsewhere"

"I understand that but we ARE a charity" she said.
"My apologies" I replied..."I hope I don't sound rude but I am a business and full time. It's all I do and I have discounted you a chunk off my usual price already"

"Ok, can you put that in an email and I'll get back to you once I have spoken to the committee members" she said.
"No problem" I replied and took her details.
I then asked where she found me and if she had rung anyone else. She said she had tried 5 others and I quote... "4 of the :Censored: didn't even answer the phone and the other one sounded about 15".
Lastly, (I HAD to ask) I asked how come she had been let down. She said that the DJ that they had booked was charging them £80.00 and all was confirmed but then he had an offer of a higher paid gig and took that instead.

I laughed and asked "To be honest, is there really any point in me emailing you with a quote as you really just want the cheapest option available don't you?"
She said "If you want me to be honest....probably not. Thanks anyway"..and then put the phone down.

10 pointless minutes of my life wasted on a woman that had more swear words in her locker than Gordon Ramsey with the hump!

I've been let down by a cheap DJ and now I'm stressed because I have to find ANOTHER CHEAP DJ...

I think she deserves to be let down again by another cheap dj. :D Then she may get it through her thick skull that you get what you pay for. You never know, you may get another phone call in 6 months for another function of theirs :)

I have had a few enquiries where the first question is price.!
Even then despite my minimal fee I dont always get the gig.

I have to say I would never dump one client for a better paying one as that is grossly unprofessional and very dishonest.

I can't believe how some people can take a booking then decided not to go because they can earn more from another gig. Why couldnt the DJ just ask for a higher price the first time round? Thats a bit like DJing a type of gig where you might get hurt, so you turn around and go home.

Not on.

If anyone books me, they get me. Even if I get another booking where I could charge a lot more. I don't work like that. I am loyal to my clients.

Well, at least you have to hand it to him for being honest about it.

Just got in from the pub guys and guess what....there's an email there from her saying she wants to book me!

Now, I'm a million miles away from '£80 quid 'arry' so she was either trying it on or has given in and come to her senses. I am half tempted to tell her where to go but it's the only date in April I need to fill.
