I got a call earlier today from 'Google' on an unknown number with the chance to but an advertising package that would put me in pole position for all mobile disco related searches in Cumbria. I asked if this was their adwords package and was told no, it was actually to put my website at number one on the list of returned search results. All for a modest £90 outlay and a further £30 per month after that.

I asked them how they managed that as i was well aware of SEO. I had hardly got the O out and the line went dead.

Sounds like another scam on the go.... :)

I had the same call mate.

They must be doing the rounds.

also had one from a RSPCC agent which is another story :Censored:

Had a similar call the other day. I asked for details about satisfied customers and how they and another 10 companies can all put me in the top 5 google placings.

They said they are unable to provide customers details due to data protection :D :D :D :D

Whenever anyone sends or phones with offers such as this or advertising websites, I always ask for 6 months free. I say that after the 6 months I will evaluate how successful their service is, and if successful will carry on and pay for the 6 free months.

Not many take me up on the offer but there has been one or two.

Come on then Garry, spill the beans about the RSPCC :D

Im wondering if its worth asking for a section on the forum to post up about known/suspected scams. Theres 4 businesses in know that were contacted in the last week regarding the awareness books for schoos again. It may be useful to have them listed.

The TPS is very effective.

I was unaware of the business version, although I only have one line anyway.

I'd say it stops 90% of sales calls, and others soon hang up when I tell them my number is registered with the TPS & ask why they're calling.

I had the same call a week or so ago.

Over time I've managed to intercept dozens of these numbers and route them to a contact on my phone called "Avoid" with a silent ringtone :p

Occasionally a new one gets through, so I stop them mid-sentence and ask which number they called. When they start "0800..." I ask them where I should send the invoice for the cost of the forwarded call. That usually kills it.

Then they're added to the "Avoid" list too :p

Im in two minds with TPS as you may miss something which may be worth having. Unlikely i know, but just maybe.... :)

They are not all scams as I have used a company very similar and they can get you to the 1st page for that sort of money.

Are you all aware there is a business version of the TPS available now?

The regular TPS already covered sole traders. The Corporate TPS is more for LTD companies etc.

Yes, a company similar. Probably a SEO company?

This lot actually claimed to be Google, pole position listing for all mobile disco related searched for that price sounds a but suspect. And for them to hang up at the mention of SEO didnt bode well.

Pass....:confused: :D The only thing that springs to mind is a sales call regarding some letterhead paper which was stupidly cheap. I took the plunge and actually got some decent quality stuff through.

I do, but im a bit OCD with things like that. Its got to be a really good quality printer for anything with images etc on.

Im saving for a HP Colour Laserjet 3700 but they aint the cheapest things to buy or run. :)

I'm the same.

Letterheads always look better when professionally printed.

Im saving for a HP Colour Laserjet 3700 but they aint the cheapest things to buy or run. :)

I have a couple of laser printers. A HP1600 and a HP2600n. They are brilliant until you find out all 4 toners need changing. :D

I know of one printer that each bottle of toner costs about £600 :D :eek: Mind the print quality is mind boggling. Home lasers have never really been good. The colour quality is poor compared to good a ink jet.

Thats why im aiming for a 3700, its more for offices. We had one in our office and the quality on it was brilliant.

For photos, a home laser printer is not as good as in inkjet, but the text quality is far far superior on a laser. I use the laser for booking forms and all paperwork and it does look far better than using an inkjet.
