70s Night

I'm hosting a 70s Night in the Concert room of my local Miners Welfare on 20th of March and although I was around in the 70s and I am very fond of music from that era I would be grateful for any advice on Playlist or stucture or anything else. Also anybodys experience of similar events.

Seen as you were around i wouldnt want to teach you how to suck eggs :D, but it is worth talking with the organiser/client about what they are after too. I had one a month or so ago and it was stricktly 70s only at the organisers request, which was fair enough...until said organiser cane and asked for allsorts of Disco tracks...which were from the 80s:bang:

Yes !! Don't make the same mistake I made the first time. I was using cd then and had an 80's night booked (80's music and nothing else !!). In my wisdom I sorted all my 80's cd's into a couple of cases to take. Played till about 10.30 then the organiser (followed by other guests) came up and requested songs from other age groups (60's, 70's and 90's) :eek: :eek:

I would reccomend taking all your music - especially if digital.

Well i also have a 70s night the follow week so will wait to see how you set up etc..

always check with client what they want, take all your music, and if you can get in the swing of things re costume etc, they'll love it !!!!!!

Please make sure that your Public Liability Insurance covers you for them, a local(ish) operator was nearly put out of business for prividing similar and someone sprained their ankle falling off. He seriously believes that had it been a break he would have been well up it without a paddle. :)

i'd use the early part of the night to play some great 70s stuff that maybe isnt ideal 'disco dancin' music, then, later on get the party going with all the ole disco classics that everyone can dance too. - don't use the classics up too early.

There for the Artist/s not the punters they come on all dressed up and they asked before i started making them...And they have expressed and intrest in hiring them from time to time...tooo

We did a 70s disco on friday, had the usual 70s tracks, village people, chic, sister sledge, trammps etc etc...then came the very early 80s tracks by request - liquid gold - dance yourself dizzy, Ottowan - DISCO, even fame!!, then came Motown, Northern Soul. What usually starts out as a 70s disco certainly never finishes as a 70s disco....we did get to dress in our 70s fancy dress though....:cool:

Personally I love it when they stick to the decade, rather than end up with a anything spread.

If it's 70's and providing your client agrees, don't forget stuff other than disco,
Early ska/reggae, glam and teeny bopper stuff, classic rock, punk, mid 70's reggae, start of two tone revival - loads of stuff beyond the disco/abba/SNF stuff
