Personally Smoking is one avenue i dont go down. Because i dont smoke at all. But you see a lot of djs out there having a cigarette with the guests.

There are a lot of DJ's that smoke. Personally im glad i dont.

so cmon then spill the beans. Who does on here. and who leaves a megamix on while they go out and puff away.

:D

i dont its gross! Even though im anti smoking in a big way and was glad when the ban came along djing wise it can be off putting at some gigs when loads of people empty the dancefloor and head for the exit, are they going for a fag or they dont like your new tune?

We had a massive debate on here about this a couple of years ago, but I am anti-smoking too for the record.

Never so much as touched one in my life, horrible nasty things.

So glad I don't have to work in smoky environments any more - without getting into politics that's probably the only thing this government's done for me :o

I am a smoker and today is the start (ok, may start monday) of a new me. I am using my spare time in the mornings (11am - 12pm) to go swimming everyday and have given myself mondays off now to go and play squash with my mate in the afternoons so I am giving up smoking.

I must admit, I only smoke when I am at gigs if it's at christmas and the background music is on when the guests are having their meal. Going 4 or 5 hours without a cigerette doesn't bother me.

I used to smoke at gigs & quiz nights in the days before the smoking ban, when I didn't have to go outside to do so.

I was on about 50 a day, so I'd get through a fair few at a gig, and looking back I think it was unprofessional to do so...but hindsight is a great thing.

Fortunately, I gave up just over 3 years ago, and I'm not only healthier, but also better off to the tune of nearly £15,000

As most know on here I gave up a while ago and to be honest, it seems like a lifetime away that the ban was imposed on indoor smoking.

Now, I can't imagine it any other way.

I smoke, and, as I work alongside a partner, I am able to pop out for the odd fag during a gig. I shall be attemptin quit attempt 138 shortly....never give up giving up.

I'd be interested to know whether those who are anti-smoking are also anti-drinking, and if not why not?

Personally I don't smoke and I think it looks bad for any DJ nipping in and out of the venue every 30 minutes to have a Cigarette.

Glad when the ban came in eh Decks...that ban is killing the pub trade round here and is a absolute pain in the backside. I dont smoke, but often find myself outside on a night out because all my mates smoke.

:shrug:Whilst working?

Smoking while working is a bad image, whereas drinking whilst working will affect your ability and the safety of yourself and others, and of course will convey a negative image aswell.

So really, drinking whilst working is a whole lot worse.

i enjoy my ciggerette and will go out for a cigerette, often i use it as a way to speak one on one to a few people who are usually the life and soul of the party, if there is not a lot of smokers in the venue then i tend not to go for one.

As i say i do enjoy my ciggerette, yes i know its bad for you and its not just my health but that of my family etc .

I am looking to hopefully quit, i have spoken to my doctor and am awaiting an appointment with the smoking cessestion clinic, but I know its going to be very hard to do as i do enjoy my cig, but i need to quit for family, helath and money reasons lol

I will set a countdown as soon as i have the appointment....

(previously tried allan carr and patches, patches worked for about 6 weeks before i gave into temptation :()

Only after setting something on fire:p which doesn't happen often enough these days. Just not the same since I stopped using gear homebuilt from bits from Maplin, RadioShack or salvaged from something else:D

Oh, cigarettes? I don't smoke. Friends and aquaintances on the whole have the courtesy not to smoke in my face:D
Although they do stink rather when they come back in from having a swift one outside:(
I have no problem with people I work with going for a quick one, if it is convenient to do so, and no-one objects to me poping out for a few minutes just for a break and some air.

I was not only thinking about whilst working, but also generally in life.

I was not only thinking about whilst working, but also generally in life.Well in that case, I think it's plainly apparent that drinking alcohol in small quantities is regarded as quite healthy - the problems start when you're going past the recommended intake levels.

Well in that case, I think it's plainly apparent that drinking alcohol in small quantities is regarded as quite healthy - the problems start when you're going past the recommended intake levels.

In that case, we'll agree to disagree, because alcohol can cause problems, even in small small quantities (not that many people seem to have alcohol in small quantities these days).

For example, even if you ARE within the legal limit, I think its wrong to drive a car, as your reflexes won't be 100%, and the split second longer it takes you to react to something can mean the difference between having an accident or not.

No, Darren, I simply made a mistake in my post.

With hindsight I shouldn't have said "In my opinion" - as what I was stating was actually fact rather than my opinion, and I did then go on to explain what I meant.

I've amended my previous post accordingly.

Apologies for the error & confusion.

I didn't know you were just taking about driving - I thought you meant generally.

I just used driving as a good example to highlight the fact that contrary to what Beerfunk said, it's NOT necessarily "quite healthy" to drink just because you remain within the government guidelines, as you will not be 100% with it, because your awareness of things around you & reaction times will be below par.

Everyone else will have realised that, when I said it's healthy to drink alcohol in small amounts, I didn't mean whilst driving, or operating machinery etc.

If drinking in small amounts was in fact healthy then it shouldnt matter if your driving or not? In fact that statement would suggest that having a small drink before driving would only improve your performance?

Exactly!

Thanks for your post, deckstar, as it proves that contrary to what Beerfunk said, everyone else will NOT have realised what he meant when he said it's healthy to drink alcohol in small amounts.

Anyway, Beerfunk, like I said before, lets just agree to disagree on this one rather than get into an argument.

Indeed, and many others more than me!

You know very well what Beerfunk was saying.

You overestimate me, Darren...because I can assure you I did NOT!

He simply made a blanket statement that drinking in small quantities is healthy. Unless I'm psychic, how on EARTH would I know from that statement whether or not he was including driving, operating machinery, doing discos, doing jobs around the house, being in charge of children, playing sport, doing the shopping or anything ELSE?

Having read deckstar's post, I clearly wasn't the ONLY one who didn't know what Beerfunk meant.
