DJ Equipment on eBay

Today's random observation...

When I first started looking at DJ Gear on eBay around 4 years ago there would be about 4 or 5 pages (200 items on each) of stuff for sale under the DJ Equipment section.

A couple of years ago that had more than doubled to 12 - 15 pages of kit for sale.

I logged in this morning and noticed there was 126 pages and over 28,000 items available, yet on closer inspection only 3900 items are actually up for auction (or roughly 20 pages worth), the rest had a Buy It Now. :eek:

Someone told me yesterday that they felt it would be folly to try and sell surplus kit at the moment (unless it is premium gear) because so much second hand stock was being dumped on the market, but I just don't see it personally.

All I see are lots of traders (who already have shops) clogging up the auctions with Buy It Now's on stock they are lumbered with. Strip them out and you have roughly the same amount of kit available as you did a couple of years ago. :shrug:

I'm not sure there is a point to this post, I just wanted to share my observations!! :p

i agree lol. but i think there should be a separate page for new stuff from shops.

you can choose to only display auction items and not buy-it-nows, alternatively you can only display used items rather than new. As someone posted yesterday, the prices for the auction items seem to go rather high, and as someone who has been looking into buying a miracled, a lot of the buy it now prices seem rather high.

i dont mind buy it now prices on used equipment ect but i think, shops should old be able to sell equipment on differnt pages,

I agree and if I am going to buy from a normal retailer then I will usually do just that, not go through eBay.

As Darren mentioned yesterday I too have seen some stuff go for really silly money, good for the seller though in that the majority of times you end up selling for less than you actually want to.

This is good for us DJ's as we can shop around even further for that bargain.

I just bought a laser, the going price was around £260.
Got mine for £210.

I never buy anything unless it's got a 'buy it now' option...I can't be boverd to mess around with all that auction nonsence. I like to click, pay and get my stuff! :)

Yeah that's certainly true in a lot of cases Rob.

When I buy from ebay I am normally looking for something specific and if the price is about right I'll buy it, my latest purchase was a Denon DN-X500 mixer for £300,an amp/mixer rack for £200 and an LMS(loudspeaker management system) for £200.

All this stuff was about what i wanted to pay and is tax deductable at 25% (capital expense) before April '09 so it's all good! :D

I must admit I buy a combination of normal auction items as well as buy it now, and despite the prices something being higher, I prefer the buy it now, as there's no waiting or wondering if you'll get outbid.

It's particularly annoying if a normal auction ends when I'm out at work (which is often the case) and I then get home to find I've been outbid by a really small amount!

Yup :)

Previous years' asset pools still have to depreciate in the same way, but from this tax year on you can put 100% of up to 50k worth of capital purchases over. :cool:
