View Full Version : Lots of phone calls coming through
Corr, what a week (well nearly a week).
Is it me or has anybody else seen a rise in phone calls or emails about people booking a disco. Had about 18 so far this week which is very strange. lol. Managed to convert 4 of them so far. All the other said they will call me back. Still waiting for the call back. lol.
Anybody else seen a rise in phone calls or emails recently?

I'm not moaning. I'm happy that I'm getting the calls as I have been advertising a lot recently.
Just wanted to see if others are getting more enquirys also.

In a word, no!
Only a couple of enquiries in the last couple of weeks, but my diary for the year was already looking pretty healthy.
I only need to take one booking every 2 months for this year now, and that will make this year my second best year ever for discos...which isn't bad considering the current economic situation.

I've had a few this week but strangely (for me), there have been 2 weddings for 2010 and 1 wedding for 2011 included in that lot. I think people are seriously looking at their budgets and making sure that they have plenty of time to sort things out.
At the beginning of the week I had a call from a very nice venue that I have played at a number of times, although I am not their resident DJ. They wanted prices for 14 Casino nights at christmas as they are doing themed christmas parties. My mate takes care of that side of my business so I'll get a percentage off that. Funny thing is, I asked if they had sorted their Disco Entertainment aswell and the manager said that he was reviewing it and would like prices. I asked what they were paying already and the guy was charging £100.00 less than me but he is still interested.
Another funny thing, I have had 3 enquiries for Halloween already and 2 have booked (one of these is my residency who wanted to make sure that they got me) and I am already booked for Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Years Eve already too.
Strangely, June is private function free so far and that's worrying as every other month is busy (August being by far the busiest with every Fri, Sat and Sun filled already).

I'm really quiet in June too. How strange!
Good to see people are still getting plenty of work coming.
I had an enquiry about nye last night too. Them seem very interested as the same client have already booked me for a summer ball as well.
So far this year is my best year yet. My calendar is very nice at the moment and its only march so things can only get better. :)

Very strange Darren. Luckily I have residencies but the money is not what I would normally get for private stuff. Saying that, a few weeks back I looked at April and worried and then it suddenly filled up so I expect (hope) that the same will happen with June.

That's because nobody likes you Rob.:p
Don't you DARE agree with me, we talked about the agreeing thing before:no:
:D:D:D:D only joking..... as you know:)
I guess there are too many factors to compare or predict or whatever disco bookings.
The only real commonality is the 'credit-crunch', but it doesn't seem to have significantly affected peoples willingness to spend money to feel good.
Chocolate being an example. Did anyone hear on the news about a fella who set up a shop making chocolate about 9 weeks ago and is already looking to expand:cool:
Apparently luxury chocolate is selling better than 'normal' chocolate...

And me--should be one of my best months--
Everyone should be having a BBQ and a Western evening;)
I think the post Xmas surge up to end of February has now finished, so reality has kicked in for a bit--but hey people still want to Party--so im upbeat ( unusually for me )

5 enquiries and no bookings - too expensive  Nearly all last minute enquiries. One I got yesterday was for a wedding on Easter Saturday, they had 'forgot' about evening entertainment
Another weekend off :( . Looking at the diary though and now doing well till middle of June, then not too bad after that.

On that dangerous topic, I've just been undercut at a local venue. How much is he charging, I hear you type. Well let me put it this way, Sixty Quid Sid is way above it!
Zilch, nada, zero, nothing! I'm in favour of healthy competition, but that's a bit naughty. :(
Actually, he's charging on the door,he keeps the takings on the door, venue gets a free disco, they can't lose.

I wonder how much of that door money will be declared to Mr Darling?......
