View Full Version : O2 or Vodaphone
My current contact runs out on my Blackberry with O2 and have been looking about for new phones. I was going to go for the iphone but I saw that Blackberry have a new phone out called the Storm.
O2 do not do this phone but Vodaphone do.
At the moment I am uming and ering about getting it because it does not have any buttons but it looks quite cool. Need to go in to a shop really and have a play.
Right here comes the tricky bit I dont understand.
With O2, I pay £35 a month for my current phone. I can get an upgrade and keep the contract going for another 18 months.
Now with Vodaphone, I see you can pay £30 a month also but do they have any extra charges i need to know about. I hear vodaphone do have some that they hide or something. lol.
I have had a good look and I still dont understand it.

O2 CS is brilliant if anything goes wonky Free, UK and friendly! Thats why I'm with them for Broadband and iPhone. Worth £5 i think :D

A friend of mine works for Vodafone and she says that the Storm has LOADS of bugs and problems with it.
I'm upgrading soon and either thinking of an Iphone if I change networks or the T-Mobile G1 if I stay with them.
i'm on o2 and have an iphone.
i find the iphone OK although i was a bit miffed that you cannot forward texts, cut and paste nor send meeting requests from the calender like you can on a blackberry :(
Apart from that, the 3G is really quick and i'm quite happy with it, and of course it's the ultimate get of jail cause you can use itunes through the 3g network.
I had a birthday party the other week, mangaged to leave happy birthday at home, ended up playing it off my iphone....client didn't know any different.

The new iPhone V3.0 OS is coming out in June it will have copy and paste and MMS! plus 100 other additions. if you install Bonjour on PC it can sync with outlook on the PC or Mail on a mac all contacts, emails and dates.

i would wait on a new iphone handset until all the proplems are ironed out.
First and foremost tom i think coverage is the most important thing. For example in my office i get really bad signal for orange but someone can walk in with a vodafone and have full signal.
The proplem i think with these new phones is they try to get them to be soo many different things such as sat nat, media player, camera etc... but dont really excel at any of them. Do you in fact need a sat nav? or a camera? I would rather a phone that worked well, good battery life and most importantly was easy to text with and voice calls are crystal clear (some phones are plain awful quality)

i have a iPhone and jail broken it
i can now send and receive thing through blue tooth , record & do mms already
also i have install a satnav on it so it all going good
I dont plan to get the iPhone at all.
My questiuon was more related to the network, not the phone.
I have been watching many videos on youtube about people comparing both the Storm and the iPhone.
After watching these videos I would rather go for the Storm but this is only available on the Vodaphone network, hence my original question about any extra charges the network may have.
As for the phone, the Storm has a better battery life which is 6 hours compared to the 5 the iPhone has. I know the iPhone has 10 hours talk time but thats is 2G where as the Storm is 3G so you can only compare the 3G speeds.
I also like that the whole screen on the Storm is one large touch screen button, dual touch if you like. You can select what ever you want on the screen, then when you want to select that, you then press on the screen. I think thats much better than just a touch screen like the iPhone but everyone is different and likes different things.
The list could go on and on but I see the iphone as more as a toy than a phone. I dont need all these apps and other stuff the iPhone has to offer. I need a phone, not a multimedia center in my pocket.
I know the Storm has a few toys on there but thats nothing compared to the iPhone. I just dont need all that stuff.
I need a solid reliable phone that won't break down. My original blackberry has never had a problem since day one so that is why I am sticking with it, as in the Blackberry.
Not having a pop at anyone but as I already said, the original post was about the network and not the phone.

I will say however that i have a contract with phones4u and its the BIGGEST regret i have had regarding mobile phones. The customer service is terrible and I have had no end of proplems with my phone and they just didnt really seem to care!
Vodaphone i have never had a contract with.

I have also heard bad things about them (phones 4 u) also but that was the only link I could find at the time of posting this thread. Got that link straight of the blackberry website. :)

Thats the worst thing you could do! Look at personal reviews on an apple product! People will pick wholes in the smallest of things when it comes to apple. Its a fab phone where it syncs with you PC without the need to connect it with the PC.

I was not watching personal reviews on each phone. Only where people are comparing them both. There was one video where one guy had the iPhone but really liked a lot of the features on the Storm.
Ahh, well I have seen plenty of videos of people having lots of problems with the syncing from iPhone to pc where the phone freezes and does nothing. I dont be dealing with that. I know that is in the current firmware but still.

If you are with O2 you need to get through to the retention dept and they will give you a much better deal if you tell them you are leaving.
I was on a £35/month contract (paying £28 though) and had 500mins, 500 texts a month. When I threatened to leave, they gave me 600mins and 600 texts and unlimited data and all for the reduced price of £20/month. That is an 18 month contract though.

After doing more reading, the Storm may not be the best bet after all.
My current phone allows me to connect to my info(at)tomdavisent.......ect. The storm does not do this yet where at the new Curve 8900 does, and also O2 supply this phone too.
Also as Steve has said, it has bugs, but then again, so does the iphoine There is even a website. lol. http://www.iphonebugs.com/
It also has a few more things like wifi built in which could be handy instead of using my nokia.
So my plan of action is to search the net for the best deal on the Blackberry 8900, print these off, walk in to the O2 store on tuesday and show them these. If they can match or better any of them then I will stick with O2.
I'm not good at this barter malarkey but we shall see what happens. lol.

I have had O2 for 8 years now--never had a problem with coverage.;)
I wouldnt use any other network personally.
I would say its better than Vodaphone ( which my son had) although it depends if they have put any more booster stations on the top of Mc Donalds recently :D :D :D

I have heard about quidco but not to sure how it works. Will have a read on the website though.
I currently pay £30 a month, It was £35 but got it reduced on the phone because I don't need all the texts and talk time I had.
I also get uninlited data (maximum 200mb) data tranfer also which is not to bad.
Also a free gift is nice. :) lol. Just need to get it all sorted soon because I want to keep my current number so people can still phone me.

Definitely 02 because they have a great offer called Favourite Place whereby you text your postcode to them and they give you a minimum of 500 minutes to other 02 users and landline calls free just by topping up 10 quid. They also give you 1000 minutes talk time when you top up by 20 quid a month and unlimited minutes call time if you top up 30 quid a month. This is a brilliant offer for pay as you go customers. I've had this favourite place tariff for about a year now and it's amazingly cheap.

Very happy iPhone user here. On my 2nd - had a 1st gen and now a 3G.
As a big Google user, I have my calendar and email 'always-on' and synced to the onboard apps. Mrs VV and VV Jr have realtime access to the same calendar from their iPhone and iTouch respectively. I rarely connect it to my mac - usually only to upload new tunes - but my 16GB holds the vast majority of my personal fave material anyway.
A great line of free and paid apps available. Rock solid performance - yes it has a few limitations but the v3 software will fix everything I personally have a problem with.
I'd never go back to another type of handset, and this is someone who's been through a number of smartphones over the last 7 or 8 years including a couple of blackberries and who until recently was in charge of global handheld device selection & procurement for a major corporate.
From a DJ point of view, being able to grab the odd request off iTunes and play it straight out in a matter of seconds is pure sex on a stick.
10/10. Brilliant device.

Just a couple of final points Tom.
I would stick with 02 even if they are a bit more expensive because of the reception.
We CURRENTLY have for my son a years Contract with Phones 4 U online plus a cashback and thats going ok. So far so good !

GOt my new phone today.
Went for the Iphone.
Joke. lol.
Got the Blackberry 8900. Very nice phone indeed. Same as my old one, just has a new platform layout with a few more features.
Put the sim in the new phone and it found my email address I had on the old phone, just need to confirm with the password and thats it. Set up 4 email accounts in 10 seconds. lol. :D
After having a chat, I found out that I was getting the 200mb data transfer for free. Should be £10 per month extra. I kept my mouth shut and now I just pat £30 a month. Im happy with that. :)

Many years ago, when coverage was patchy, a friend and I enquired whether enabling "roaming" would allow you to use whatever network was giving the best coverage. We were told that it wasn't allowed in this country. :(

I got an "experaince offer". I got given a choice of 7 things to do for free, so I took up the spa type thing for my other and I. :)

Just read this post, Maybe to late, But what tarrif are you, Because the blackberry tarriff is on top ?. And no vodafone data package come with 200mb, They did in times gone by, But they then joined the blackberry soc to the vmi,
