two neat ideas i came across on you tube
maybe instead of a tri faze a cluster laser could be used from behind

YouTube - HOW TO SET UP MOBILE DJ LIGHTING with a twist

YouTube - Wedding Grand Entrance set up! Set Piece DMX 512 computer controlled lighting

Hey it's Johnathon! :D

He does some awesome videos on there. So many tutorials on mixing and setting up your rig and sooooo much other bits and pieces :p

He really is the YouTube DJ legend! :D

The other video is a great idea too. Looks great.

He's a bit nuts, but very passionate about it, you can't help but respect that!

Some of the things he goes on about are wrong! I think there was one on how to store cables and they way he was doing it was the best way to brake them! Plus some are just pointless! :D

To be honest, that first video does look quite cool and interesting to try out.

I do like thr tri-phase lights but need to resist from buying them just yet. lol.

Not to sure on the second video though. Not sure if I like it really.

firstly that guy is a legend! his passion just comes through and i love the fact hes abit nuts, can relate to that :D

Im thinking the effect hes shown is a good idea but would only really suit a 18th/21st and where you have the space!

Now its gotten me thinking :D as some of you know i have recently purchased a 4metre truss ideally to use in big events. Now im thinking if i can buy a cloth that covers from the bottom bar on the top of the truss down to the floor and have this effect going from behind it would look awesome!

the first video is a good idea, but in reality, how many gigs do we have enough space to do this?

the 2nd video doesnt look that great if im honest, the truss doesnt look that sturdy either!

Same scenario here. I know loads of things I could do with, but no cash to buy it with!!

Sods law really! :D

As a representitive of the industry I agree too on the image he portrays, as a person I get on fine with him!

You have to pick and choose the good bits but I think he aims his videos at beginners, a lot of what he says is just common sense.

In what way does he let the industry down (bit harsh?)

Showing gig logs with a 120mw laser perched on a floor standing 4ft double 15" cabinet for starters.....

but in all fairness he takes the time and effort to do these videos and alot of people watch them on youtube so i think you have to be careful to knock him? I dont see anyone else doing videos?

I havent seen anything in his videos which i thought were BAD but like adam said if the laser thing is true then i can accept why people dont like him

To be honest I don't like the second video. It doesnt look very elegant at all, It's just a few Pars inside a truss with a cloth thrown other, In my opinion a nice starcloth behind the main table would be better.

:agree:

Maybe the people who knock his videos should see if they can do better.

At least he's making the effort...and his passion is obvious.

I suspect he's the type of guy who happily accept constructive criticism, he is perhaps, simply ignorant of the flaws people are pointing out. Someone should email him or post a message on his Youtube page.

You think he does them for nothing? You don't think he keeps the gear that he is sent and then sells it? Wow, there are some naive people about!

i take you have proof that he does? All i think you can comment on is the facts and thats pretty much the video that ive seen. Its not naive at all and if he "DOES" keep the equipment then fair play to the lad some people still enjoy doing what we're doing...........

Meaning?

It is very naive of you to think he just does this out the goodness of his heart for others.

I don't like the way he portrays certain things. That is my opinion. Why are you talking about me doing a video?

You said he takes time and effort to do these videos and I am merely pointing out that he doesn't do them for free.

Not all companies let him keep the products, the higher end manufactures will have it back at some point. They all have pre-production pieces knocking around which are shown at shows, and are also given to guys who test and review the items before they're launched on the general public, as well as given to the likes of DJ Mag/iDJ magazines, and also leant to the likes of us at HTFR to test things to destruction. So what he has may not be full mass produced models.

OK and i like the videos. You however called me naive for saying i like the videos and that people shouldnt be so hard on him. If we all did a video similar to what he did i bet people would pick on things that they didnt like. Look at the gallery section of this site for starters!

Er, no I didn't. Why would I?

I am saying you are naive because you and a lot of others think he just does this for the love of it.

HAHA i never said that but hes really passionate about what hes doing and i think fair play to him. If he gets to see lights before they are released or demo stock then brilliant i'd love to be in that position myself! Its not like hes being paid hard cash for doing these videos and they are FREE to view for all of us.

In regards to what people are saying about him giving the industry a bad name etc... why not contact him if he bothers people that much and offer advice?

I thought I'd watch a couple of his videos and in one he is encouraging DJs without any experience to charge the same as guys with 10-15 years experience. Great idea...:bang:

I said ive only seen him post a few videos but ive been impressed from what ive seen

Naturally if hes telling up and coming djs to charge the same as experienced pros then thats just stupid.
