Lighting Stands

Having seen various DJ's at different venues some use a goalpost arrangement, some have a Deckstand incorporates a lighting stand and some use a T bar.

Of the three I like the look of a goal post and looking at a few they seem to be available in two sizes, ie you get two pieces so you can join them together to make a longer light stand if you are doing a bigger venue and need more lights.

Before I put one of those on my list, is there another better alternative?

I think your best bet would be go for a standard deckstand with a lighting bar already as part of the stand.

For the bigger gigs, I would look at trussing as you can then go as big as you want, but you still use the deck stand, just leave the top light bar at home and use the truss instead. With truss you would need to use speaker stands with adaptors for truss but you need to get stands that can handle the weight.

It's all well and good saying that the truss can handle 300kg, but if the stands can only hold 100kg each then you only get about 170kg to play with once you take the weight away from the truss itself.

There are a few people on here who use truss for larger shows. They know more than me so they would be the better people to talk too.

i belive the 4ft ultimax goal post is what you need. Its really well made and enough space to afix enoug lights to fill most small to medium sized venues.

And of course, you can buy separately wider overhead bars if you wish.

I use the ultimax deckstand with overhead bar. The only thing i have problems with it trying to tidy cables.
I am looking into getting truss top adaptors and some truss in the future though.

T- Bars are quick and easy for childrens parties small private parties etc

Personally I would go straight for trussing, you can add to it as needed and it gives you the maximum flexibilty.

I've lost count of how many times at gigs the venue staff have not left enough space for the disco and I have put my truss along one wall and my deck stand off to one side. I would never have been able to setup without the truss on seperate stands.

Good advice, if your constantly working at venues you know then its easy--otherwise you need to be flexible.
