bass bin set up

I've just purchased some lovely new Class D Bass Speakers and wondered what the best way to set them up would be.

These are the speakers:

I have a crossover, but have never used it and don't have a manual (I will find one online) do I need to use it or could I daisy chain these to my normal speakers? I also have a back up amp so could fire the bass bins from one amp and the tops from the other...

If I use the crossover, how do I set it up

mixer -> crossover -> amp(s) -> speakers ?

They will work fine using their built in crossover, BUT an active crossover and two amps is WAY better. Mixer to x-over, you then get two low out leads to the sub amp, and two hi out to the tops amp. You also have control of where the frequencies cut off, and the relative volumes of hi and low. Best advice is to get it set up and working, then suck it and see. A little experimenting can be very rewarding re sound quality.

No, seriously, until you can upgrade it, use it for the tops, as it will not be working as hard. Never use it for subs, I'd guess from what I've read about them, it won't like that.

When I use subs, I do something a little out of the ordinary.

I always run my mixer in mono & my amps have high / low pass filters on them.

I see where you're coming from, but you do need higher spec amps than Womble or I possess to do that. It's in the same vein as using one amp to split the frequencies, and run one for subs, one for tops, but without a separate crossover.

Indeed. I assume this means you can choose whether to send full range, sub or high to either output? I've only seen the Peavey type system before, the Yamaha looks unsurprisingly very good. The Peavey allows splitting of signals and outputs, but not as easily as the Yamaha it would appear. Can you also daisy chain line signals with the Yamaha?

agreed on the Yamaha amps. There is a local pa company here that use a lot of Yamaha gear those in the area might know him. ITSL (In The Spot Light)
from the large system.

Last system i heard he had about 4 of those Yamaha P series amps in a rack on wheels powering a Yamaha PA system. 4x yamaha 15" tops 2x double 18 yamaha subs. It sounded good. Seem nice and rugged Yamaha.

When I bought the originals the cheapest I could find them was at http://www.dv247.com/invt/29869/ however, when I replaced them after the theft, another forum member got me some at a fraction of the price (trade)

For that price you might as well go for a void amp.

It's cheaper, has slightly more power and is also a better brand in my opinion.

I know you got your amp a while a go now but I thought I would post this incase anybody else is looking at getting a new amp with that much power. :)

The P series have come quite a way in the last few years!:cool:

I have a P3500 from when they were still 3U and it doesn't have a crossover in.
Fantastic amp, wouldn't hesitate to go for Yam's again:D

Looking at yours... what's with Yamaha putting 1/4 inch jacks on the speaker outs??:eek::eek::eek::D:D

Mine has terminal blocks & binding posts/bananananana plugs.
