Class D CD15 Bass Bins vs JAC12s

Hi Guys, Just purchased a cheap pair of Class D CD15 bass bins from a bar getting rid of equipment, I am going to use them on the second setup we have together with JAC12 tops (AC Euro ACP112) and all driven on one amp for the time being until I sort a crossover out, I have been told from the guy at the bar to link from the amp to the JAC12's first then to the CD15 bass bins as this would give the 4ohms needed to get the max from the amp as the CD15s have a 'filtered crossover', I explained that surely you come from your bass bins first then to the tops, he then said you could but you would get 8ohms still instead of 4ohms :confused: .....is this correct???....thanks

Tops first = 4ohms, bins first=8ohms. If you go through the tops first, they will get a fullrange signal into them, with added bass from the subs. Corabar Steve runs a lot like that, if I understood him correctly. I would be inclined to try it each way, and see which you prefer.

One word of caution. I didn't initially spot that the tops were JAC's. As far as I know, they are not as good run full range as their wooden cousins. The benefits of the extra power you get may be outweighed by the less distinct sound. It's a suck it and see scenario. Let us know what you find/think.

I think Peter is correct in that feeding a full signal to 12" may not get the desired results.

The amp is 400wrms x 2 at 8ohms and 600wrms x 2 at 4ohms

In that case, your ears and nose will be your best indicators.
Ears if it sounds better the "wrong way round", and nose if you drive it so hard that it cooks. ;) :D :D :D

Ok! I have tried amp to tops to bass (4ohms), getting a good punchy sound, seems a little too much bass though must be getting the full range on the tops then. I then tried amp to bass to tops (8ohms), getting bass from the bins and the top end frequencies in the tops, I like the punchy sound wired from amp to tops to bins although as you say pete I don't want to take this on a gig and end up cooking myself!....:eek:
