Hi guys. Whenever im off the computer and doing my own thing (which is rare :D) i enjoy watching films and playing my xbox on my 50 inch plasma tv. (Im not willy waving btw). Im however now looking at maybe a 5.1 sound system to add to the experience (for example i play alot of first person shooters) so i like to play in the dark and having sound effects coming from all around and not just the pretty basic speakers built into the tv.
My question is with this in mind do you have a system that you love. As we know from disco speakers that spec isnt quite everything and i havent looked into systems like this before.
Regards
Neil

Quick question, will you be runing this from the xbox??? The reason I ask is because on the video out cable, there is am optical out for 5.1 systems.
Also how much you got to play with???
This looks like a good read - http://www.avforums.com/forums/xbox-360/292248-whats-best-5-1-surround-sound-system-optical-input.html

well Im think £300 tops?
When i play games i willl but also if footy is on i'll be wanting to use the tv too.
Forum posts that you linked too are from 2006 so may be out of date?
Thinking about it too i'd prefer the rear speakers to be wireless or on stands that dont take up too much space. I have a thing about cables.......... :D

I saw the 2006 date but I thought it might of some use as it was about the 360 and 5.1 sound systems. I didnt go to much into the thread. :)
Wireless speakers are handy but I got a feeling they might cost a bit for a 5.1 setup. I don't really know as I havent looked in to it. :)

For the last few years I've had a Sony DAVZ500F (http://www.sony.co.uk/product/hcs-surround-kit---dvd-player/dav-dz500f) in my bedroom, hooked up to a 42" plasma. It's very loud and sounds great. Not too sure my neighbours like it though. :o

I've got an old Pioneer 5:1. It has a serious bass box with it. As we can't afford carpet and have wooden floors....it rumbles.

Yesterday somebody described a home system a customer had. It had more 15" drivers than I take to most discos!

Spec listed there but no efficiency rating that i could find or in manual. The centre speaker is barely larger than a tv remote yet it kicks out alot quite happy with the system!

Very similar to what I have. I do like the tallboy speakers. They look great next to the plasma.

Peter I think a pair those Class D columns might look a bit out of place in a NORMAL Lounge.
But apparently thats what they like in Mansfield.
:D :D :D
We did ask about the neighbours, apparently they are so impressed they come round and enjoy the sound.:(

Yes i could of had just two tallboys at the front and pc speaker sized surround ones but I just didnt like the look of it. Living room is quite modern looking anyways so this like you say fits in nicely. My tv is a panasonic too so I can control everything off the one remote :D
I also got a hdmi cable today too and its amazing the difference it makes to picture quality :D Happy days!
