How loud is 95db?

I know Sound Limiters have been raised before several times, and I'm not after a do you/dont you work in venues that have them thread, but I've been asked to quote for a venue where the sound needs to remain below 95db.

Anyone able to advise whether this is workable for a disco (I know different frequencies have a different effect on limiters but just looking for top line advise on what most limiters are likely to be set at).

95dB isnt too bad, but would like a bit more to play with. Youve got to take background noise into account if the limiter is running off a microphone (and where the mic is placed). I can get a nice sound in one venue without tripping the limiter, unless theres people at the the bar....

The best thing to do is what I did. When the new noise at work laws came in, I bought a cheap little sound level meter to carry with me, in case people start arguing the toss about things. Try it out during the start of the evening, middle and towards the end, making sure you take readings at different distances from the cabs. That should give you an idea of how loud 95db is.

Not sure how effective this would be, but the spirit level app is pretty damn accurate!!

This is the one I own. (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=46362) I didn't get it from there and pay that much though. I'm pretty sure I got it on Ebay and paid about £35-£40.

My lawnmower is 95dB and that is not that loud. sorry I was I shouting?

Here are some other typical noise levels:

Ambulance siren 125dB
Roadworks (pneumatic drill) 120dB
Rock concert 120dB
Noisy nightclub 110dB
MP3 player at high volume 105dB
Motorcycle 95dB
Noisy pub 90dB
Hairdryer 90dB
City traffic 85dB

I suggest you don't run a hair dryer at the same time or you may trip the limiter.;)
