Pluging into House PA System

Guys

Just been booked for a function in Hotel which I havn't played in before. Phoned the hotel as I heard they had a sound limiter. But now informed that I have to plug into their PA and that I cant't add any other bass into. The customer has asked for quite a bit of R&B which I feel may be afftected by the lack of bass. Any thoughts, do you guys regularly plug into house systems and is their anything I should be aware of.

I don't what is installed, but I do know that they have had some issues in relation to sound levels and although the hotel didnt tell me this the bride and groom did say that 90db was mentioned which ties in with a current post asking what 95db is like.

The combination of their equipement, possible sound limit and choice of music which requires some bass is what has made me nervous.

If the B&G know that there is a limiter then i wouldnt worry about it.

And he may not. ;) :D I used to work in a place where the same clause was in place, so they could limit your volume. Make sure you've got an adaptor or two with you. ;) I'd see if you could visit first, and have a look/play/listen.

Your faith is truly touching. :D Me, I'm sceptical. When the punters conversation is louder than your repertoire, that could be a problem. ;) :( :(

But not if you have captured all this up front. B&G meetings, Hotel visit..as you said, go have a play.

Yes - I hear what you are saying but, I do cover all the points and make them clear at the meetings and phone calls.

Tony, you should know as well as I do, that at a gig when they want the house lights on they ask the DJ! You've never been there before, and you're fifty feet from the switches, but they still ask you. When two hundred guests can't hear the music they want to boogie on down to, who do you think is going to get it right in the deckstand? :confused: Not the Hotel Manager that's for sure. :( :(

Before now i have had guests come up and ask to turn it up. I just explain that i physically cant and usually its fine. You get the odd one or two but i just explain that the B&G are aware of the problem and there is nothing that anyone can do :)

I sincerely hope I'm totally wrong, and as we're only working on supposition, that's quite possible. However, preparing for a worst case scenario means you're regularly pleasantly surprised. :D :D

Ive never had a problem working in the lakes, everyone has been nice with nice guests. the only problem is that theres not much repeat business. Over 90% of my clients had a address out of county last year. The rest were local, and rough gigs.......
