Opinions on my design

Not to sure if this is the right section to post but please feel free to move.

So after my recent post about where to buy my next batch of business cards from, I have started to get designing.

I have decided to go for the minimalist look. I have decided to go for a double sided card design.

What do you think of my first design. All comments are welcome, bad or good. :). I know some of you may say that it does not look like I am advertising mobile disco entertainment but think its classy and understated. I'm also trying to get better paid work, and I feel if I can show a better business card as well as present myself better, I could get these kind of gigs.

Anyway, what do you think???

It certainly is minimalistic :d. I'd add a little more spacing between the text on the back. It's all too centralised near the middle.

Personally, if I were booking a service and only a mobile number was offered...I'd be a little wary. I'm sure I'm not alone.

Tom, i like your white wiggles on your website and think that they would look great on the black background. Still looks minimalist, but a touch of classy instead of just plain (IMO) :)

Believe me or not, I actually get more people phoning me than sending an email. I had my mobile number on my business card under my old name and still had more people phoning me, hence why I have stuck with it. :)

In my opinoion these are very basic cards, which I understand in your post that this is how you want them.

The question I would have running through my head is if a customer seen your card for example in a shop on the side would they pick it up? if you gave the customer the card would they keep it?

The problem is the card does not shout out to you "I am a Mobile Disco Company"

My cards have a picture on the front which shows off my setup in my opinion it is something I wanted to do as people can see what they would be getting.

For example if someone passed my card on to another person it says "Mobile Disco Cmpany" and also shows what they are getting. This backed up by the positive comments by the person who gave them the card I felt would have more impact.

I understand it is a personal choice in card design, but that is my opinion.

That i like :) - Have you considered getting an 0800 number? It has helped me as i dont have a land line. People dont mind calling mobiles off mobiles, or landlines/0800 numbers off landlines, but (ive found) people are less happy calling mobiles off landlines because of the cost.

Ive had a huge increase in enquiries since getting the 0800 number 9and it dont cost alot) :)

But do yourself a big favour and spend a few quid on an 0800 or 0845 number diverted to your mobile. Shouldn't cost more than £20 to set up then a few quid a month for rental & calls. That will sit much better than a mobile number on an otherwise professional looking card.

Hi Tom.
The layout of both sides looks great, its short BUT to the point. If I was you, I'd get rid of the white background, have a very dark blue background instead because it'll give a more warmer feel.

Why dont you get an 0800 number?

I had a think about it but to be honest why fix what aint broke. Having my mobile number on my site and my cards seem to work for me.

I don't know if this is true but to me it feels like a client has my personal direct number and not a home number if you get me. Everyone is different. I get more people calling me about booking up so I'll stick with that. :)

To me, if they can't afford to make the call, then they can't afford to book me. I don't see why I should go out of my way to make things for free for them if they are going to spend a good part of £300+ on a disco with me. lol.

I see where you are coming from but I don't really wish to go down that route. :)

It's nothing to do with people affording the call, it just looks suspicious if you only have a mobile number.

I like the second design, but I would suggest moving the text and the squiggle up a bit, so it goes -

That way, all the text is nice and visible and not intruded on by the squiggle.

Looking good now , why not keep your mobile on there as a direct line to you ie for people that know you already and they can text you etc , then add a freephone number as well it looks more established and professional, people do like that first general enquiry call free.

I'm still going to keep my mobile number on the card. It works for me so I don't see the point in changing it. If I loose business then it's my fault at the end of the day but having advertising my mobile number all over the internet, it would seem silly to change it now.

Just trying to keep the thread to the original discussion (opinions on design). before it headed down an 'opinions on mobile numbers' and 'opinions on freephone numbers route. That's all. :)

I would swap the 'supplying mobile disco entertainment...' and the website and email addresses around.

that way what you do would immediately stand out to any client in the middle of the card. and all the contact details would be neatly together at the lower third of the card, but still easy to see.
