Hi guys :)
I just wondered if anyone watched the documentary last night about anorexia with Fern Cotton? Wondered if anyone has ever had any dealings with it/people around them and their views on it?

An old girlfriend of mine suffered from this, she was a voluptuous girl to start with but then seemed to have this obsession with losing weight and training, she would do 100 sit ups every morning then eat a plate of boiled cabbage at lunchtime and that was it.
To be honest it had an effect on our relationship and we eventually broke up, she was stick thin and a far cry from the girl I met, I told her that I preferred her the way she was but she was obsessed by now.
I have recently bumped into her after several years and i'm pleased to say she looks a lot better.
I would say she was about 9 stone when I met her and about a 36B bra size..(nice), when we broke up she was about 5 and a half stone and flat chested so I can't understand how people with this condition can feel that they look good by being skinny although I realise it is a disease or a compulsion, anyway it was hard to comprehend at the time.

It's just I'm very keen to raise awareness over it. I'm not looking for a sympathy vote but I have suffered from an eating disorder (anorexia/bulimia). I have had it for around nine months now and have lost 4 stone. I suddenly took a turn for the worse in December after going on a crazy diet in October. The past few months have been very difficult and hard to deal with. This evil illness takes over your life. Your personality changes and the person you become is not good. I lost a lot of good friends and became very enclosed. I am steadily improving and have become really good with all my friends again. I believe my illness was more about "mood not food." Family life has been pretty :s the past few months with one thing and another. I have a lot of low self esteem and sometimes feel not worthy to be here today. Although I have lost a lot of weight my liver has also become into a dangerous condition. Not enough is done to help people with the illness or not enough awareness is raised. People just think that others are attention seeking any why don't they just bloody eat. It really isn't that easy...and I guess I was interested to know how many of you lot know about it or have had dealings with it. What advice could you give and if I conjured up something to raise awareness or help others would you be happy to help a little or lot where possible? :) thanks guys.
