How many par cans ???

I mainly use par cans for uplighting and occasionally on my rig also. I started off with buying 6........then bought some more.........then bought some more..............an I still need more.

How many par cans would you say on average are needed. Obviously I know each venue is different etc etc but how many on average do you think is needed ?? Hopefully my next par can order will be the last for a while. ;)

On average I use 8/10 for the room plus a couple on the rig to 'complete the picture'.

Bigger marquees can take up to 14/16 but smaller rooms can get away with 6/8.

I use the LEDJ PAR56s with the 10mm LEDs on the Adam Hall stands.

im looking at the Thomann ones (Stairville)

They have the par 56 floor stand ones and the par 64 ones (in chrome of course)

i am baffled by what the difference is, as they both have 150 leds, both use 5mm LED's, anyone able to help?

judging by the tech side of things, they look identical brightness, so im not entirely sure why i should pay the £9 more per head???

I use 8 x LEDJ Colourbursts, both as Uplighting or on stands. At some point I think I will be investing in some more of them as the Uplighting service is getting more and more popular. Almost every booking I get now is also having the Uplighting included.

I think you need at least 10-12 for a normal sized function room. I'm now up to 32 in total.

For an uncomplicated venue I charge £20 each, minimum of 6, alongside disco or £30 each minimum of 6 standalone hire. Standalone hire gets a small DMX desk whereas +disco gets a desk for daytime use then at night connects into my Daslight system.

i have my first uplighting booking coming up this year

small room, 8 heads, venue approx 30 mins away i charged £200, set for 8pm
I offered Disco 8-12 in evening, no early setup £350

£500 for both, which is now booked in!

i notice people give a discount for booking Disco AND Uplighting, which makes sense. However i would have thought that uplighting is "generally" required all day and night, whereas the disco is only nighttime (generally)

so this would involve double the journeys?

It doesn't to me. I always have a person dedicated to doing the uplighting and pay them accordingly, so if I gave discounts, I'd start losing money.

just like companies provide quantity discounts and a DJ may offer a discount for block bookings, this is along the same lines?

Indeed.

In fact I recently WON a booking over a competitor BECAUSE I offered the uplighting option.

I don't give discounts for taking both services; I just charge more for a standalone can hire :) Therefore it LOOKS like a discount.

No, I would lose money, as I would have to pay the lighting guy to do the uplighting and wouldn't make anything on it if I gave too much discount.

I have my costs to take into consideration too.
