Do any of you ever organise your own gigs?

I (many years ago) ran blue light discos for our local police for 8 to 13 yo's.

It is something I would like to start in the new town that I live, but with a wider range of ages (up to 18?), as a regular event.

I live in a town where the average age is probably about 55/60, and our kids feel estranged. They are good kids, but hated by the majority!!!

So, have any of you organised your own events for under 18's? and if so, what pitfalls did you face? and what advice would you give?

There was a thread very recently on this - you 'might' want to have a search about. :sj:

Any clues under which forum to base my search or what words to search for?

Sorry to sound so vacant, but I can not think what to write to base search on...

sorry to be new... I hope my newness will wear off in time ;)

I have done one event (can be found in the gallery section)

Charlie Brown has done various U18 events as well as a couple of other forum members

Organised a local event for under 18's and the first thing is to get some security. Not because the kids will be rowdy or anything but just for peace of mind. And it will reassure the 50+!
Also decide on what type of under 18's event it will be... will there be drinks [non alcoholic ofcourse] and food. If so you will need people to help with this etc.

Also decide on where you will advertise, schools, youth clubs?

Naturally first thing is to check out the market. Is there enough demand for such an event. Do you know a couple of "party animals" who you can get on board who in turn will bring their masses of friends (of course you want the right sort of people at such an event). Do your research because it will help decideding how you market it, what music you play lighting effects etc....
