How much do you think these speakers are worth?

first of all i want to say that this post has no relevance to djpro and its for myself and not the company i work for.

i have been after a reasonable size pa system for a while and someone i know has offered me a pair of Mackie 1530 speakers however one of the main drivers has blown and requires replacing with one of the new eminence speakers.

after replacemnt i have been offered them for £650... do you think this is a fair price if they are in full working order even if one of the speakers has a different driver in.

never sold them so i have no idea of there worth....

If it's a SA1530 it's not a bad price, if it's a SR1530 it's not such a bargain, especially with a non standard driver. If you do buy it try to get the old driver, it would be worth having it reconed

how do you know its just the bass driver blown? If theyve cooked the bass driver, then its possible they have damaged the internal crossover, this gets very expensive

The speakers are tri-amped actives, I can't see how the crossover will be damaged, since it only handles the pre amplified signal. However, the amp module could be looking very secondhand, and they cost serious money to replace. As I've said, if they're the SA models it's a good price, but proceed with caution.

then how do you know the amp module is working properly? It wouldnt be the first time Mackie had a problem with a Bass Amplifier....

was told yesterday that Mackie are recommending using 16ohm drivers to replace the 8ohm driver in 1501's when they blow? Why? Because itll be quieter, so wont blow the driver again!!! Terrible...

I would give em a good pasting for a few hours before handing over the cash.

Once you have parted with the dosh you wont get it back

Mackie don't have genuine parts. They use to use RCF drivers and over the last 5 years or so, the speakers have been built in China.

not just bodge an eminence into the box because its cheaper
