talk talk are llu, SO if you swap to them its a pain to get back to another provider, As say you wanted to go sky, you would have to hop back in via bt
and you would incur reconnection costs to bt

I use Talk Talk phone & broadband - MUCH more efficient than my old BT service and with the exception of one short outage about a month ago has been rock solid for over 12 months. Not sure what packages are around at the moment but when I signed up I got unlimited free daytime calls to UK landlines and 0845's, 100 anytime minutes to UK mobiles, and unlimited evening/weekend calls to about 50+ countries excluding a few in the Far East.
Broadband runs at just shy of 3 meg at 8 miles from the exchange.
Monthly bill is a gobsmacking £21.
Well recommended.
Do a search on Google for 'Talk Talk Outages' as there are a few areas suffering from long-term broadband speed issues - these guys are very upfront about any problems they have.

When looking for a new ADSL provider, you should look at www.samknows.com and check your nearest exchange. It will list who is in there...for better speeds you should always go with a company with LLU at the exchange you're using.
EDIT: You should also go to http://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html and check the maximum speed your line will support. There's no point paying for 10Mb + if you can only ever get 6Mb....

The BT link is interesting. Here is mine:
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line rate up to 2Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 6.5Mbps or greater.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a potential broadband line rate of 9Mbps or greater.
Although I am with sky and have the following connection speed:
DownStream Connection Speed: 15999 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed: 765 kbps

Are you an O2 customer? Pay as you go or contract? are you in a LLU area. if you answer yes to all then you can get 20 Meg for £10 per month free number and that and a brilliant wireless router. Talk Talk can be a hit or a miss IMO.

I recently switched to TalkTalk too, and I have to say they aren't very organised or efficient. I've had to chase them up several times in order to keep the process moving.
That said, the savings I'll receive will be excellent. The performance - I'll need to report back, as only the telephone services have been transferred as yet, but I'm quietly confident :)

This surprises me.
A couple of days after placing the order I received a pack with a personalised booklet detailing everything I could possibly want to know about my account and all the technical features I'd signed up for, including config data for any router I might want to use, email address, telephone numbers etc..
There was a letter explaining what would happen on switchover day, with the exact time it would take place down to the hour.
It happened dead on time, was off for about 5 minutes, and then I was away. Since then I've had to report one fault. I called the faults number, an automated thingy asked for my dialling code and a recorded message confirmed a general fault in the area.
Billing has been on-time and accurate.
No problems here.
