Oh what a night!

:D Guys! just thought I would post this up... Got invited to a 40th birthday last night, my nieces 40th, on arrival into the main hall I noticed that the DJ was still setting up at 7.45pm, the party started a 8pm!!, anyway, got a drink as you do and just sat and watched the DJ set up his gear, nice goalpost but then noticed the 2 maplin spot banks go up on the post...very nice I thought :) but wheres the rest?? after a further 10 minutes he brought in 2 FAL light boxes, the ones with the honeycomb fronts very 70s Oh!! and then a rope light which he fed through the goalpost that was it no further lighting..:eek: the speakers were 12" protek?????. When the he had finally finished tweaking about, the music started at 8.30pm, the sound was very screechy and unbearable, someone asked him to turn it down, he did but no difference, he was nearly swallowing the mic as you could not hear a word he was saying. On chatting with my niece later in the night she said that he had got a playlist of 15 songs chosen by her, by 11.30pm he had played 4 despite being reminded of the list...now here is the best part, the price for 3 and a half hours work........£200 :eek: , the big question guys is...would you have paid this for your party??? "The Ultimate Cowboy Roadshow"!....:D

On the initial enquiry before booking she was apparently told that he carries professional sound and light, I told her in my opinion that I would have refused to pay that amount on the night but she would not speak her mind on the night in case it upsets everyone.

Gareth, I'm sure there's some confusion here. :confused: From the gear you describe, and the price paid, are you sure your Niece hasn't bought the disco, rather than hire it? :confused: :D :D

The light boxes was surprising, there are some old skool DJs still out there that do weddings etc.

The sound system could have been improved at least.

i think he should get his money, he quoted £200 and turned up and done the gig,if we start saying he wasn't worth it then whats to stop our customers saying we not worth the money we quoted and they want a refund. having said that he started late ,why ?did he turn up late, or did he have problems getting acces (lost count of the number of times i've been sat outside venues waiting for people to turn up)
