Biggest event you have done.

Just wondering what is the largest events you guys have done.

The largest venue or the most people you have played for.


I am just askking as most of my bookings are for 250 people or less, and was trying to find out if there are bigger crowds out there.

I have a large sound system that is good for clubby type events but I would like to use it more for my mobile disco. So what large events are you all doing.

Largest I've done was a student gig for 400, although that wasn't using my own gear. I'd probably only want to do up to 250, possibly 300 with the gear I have, without doubling up on the subs at least. All depends on the venue and size of dance floor as well though.

used to do an annual event for 800-900 people at Christmas Time, big company works Doo, thought it was pretty soul-less, even with a packed dancefloor

i still prefer parties for 50 people or less, much more involved in the party

We frequently do parties for 400+, 18th birthdays have been good recently, here's a link to a slideshow of the Last One we did. (http://www.cloudsdisco.co.uk/#/slideshow/4533517952) The room was twice the size it looks in the pics and there was a large bar area to the side. We are getting repeat bookings from the same crowd of teenagers, and they seem to be trying to go one better on each time, which is fine by me :) I do think you have to 'give more' to get and retain these events. This group wanted a nightclub feel, and we gave it to them, a pair of 12" tops and an impossibled would not have got the gig and a mediocre set up wouldn't have got the repeats, we're booked for the next in 3 weeks time, similar numbers and essentially the same crowd.
EDIT:
You could try taking your 'big rig' out to the next party that would have the right guest profile for a nightclub style event. We get virtually all of these events from the people who have actually attended one. We also find the enquiries we get 'on the night' from these events, is well above the average we would normally expect.

I was the DJ/Announcer for the Guildford Flames Ice Hockey Club for 5 years and would regularly work with crowds of 1800 - 2200 people.

Try walking across an ice pad in normal shoes without falling over in front of all those people, now that's nerves! :D

Disco wise, I've probably done a few gigs for 300-350 people.

Back in the mid 80s I provided the PA/music/announcements for a Summer fete, so that would have probably been my biggest audience overall.

Hmm... I'm rubbish at estimating numbers in a crowd, but my biggest was a fundraiser in Haddington Corn Exchange, which was sold out for the 500 capacity - how many were there on the night I'm not sure, but the place was stowed!

Don't lie dan... You Tech'd a fireworks event that i hosted with an audience of around 10 - 15,000 people :D

Biggest disco wise with my own kit is around 1000 - 1200 per night with 15 functions that i do every christmas. Personally i prefer the bigger gigs... Yes slightly less personal but what an atmosphere you can create.

The largest for me was about 300 and that was for NYE one year.

Another one was a summer fun day for a school. Not really a disco as such but provided pa hire and music for the acts that were being taken place throughout the day. Can't remember how many people but I think it was around the 400 mark.

Of course. But sometimes ( the glorious times ;) :D ) the feeling of euphoria when it works in those numbers........................................ :D :D :D

I prefer more numbers in all fairness. Small numbers are great but in small rooms where it doesnt look half empty will create more atmosphere than an half full sport hall etc...

the largest i have done was a wedding for 600 it pushed me to the limit with the gear.

Biggest I did was a 60's theme for a local museum. We had about 3000 - 10,000 people through the door but it wasnt more than about 100 people in the same room at any one time. Great day that.

Probably 1500- 2500. For a passing out Parade. We being my day job (Penguins) did x3 rooms. VisualDJ did the video DJ room. Mark - Bellshill your going to love this here are some videos.

We would start rigging the day before. The parties wouldn't be finish at 02.00am and we would say goodbye to the trucks loaded at 8.00am. Great gigs but really tiring!!!!!!!!

how could i forget, i was hired to show up and DJ at two events at Christmas, was about 800 each night, pretty boring if im honest, i felt so separated from the crowd. Wasnt my kit, was a bit stack of DB Fifty Line either side and some CDJ 1000's for me to use. Infact the one night they had a band and i did about 30 minutes, although the lighting guys let me play with the lighting desk, so i got to play with the Mac500's for a while, which was fun hehe

I would also like to know if you visited the venues before the gig to check things out, and what equipment did you use at these big events. Did you use your usual mobile rig or do you have other stuff for bigger events.

nope dont normally visit venues unless im not sure of information given me, as a lot of my gigs are in marquees there pretty much all the same. (dont tend to take on specialist work, or expensive gigs - i leave thjose to them that can do them better than me.

my normal rig is a peavey cs3000 with 2 peavely UL15s. it covers 99% venues that I do and mor ethan enough to keep pace or better the bands.

for very large venues have 2 peavey ul118's and peavey cs4000 running in bridge mode just to give a bit more depth to the sound.
