Swine Flu-Gigs cancelled

In Scotland they are saying thjat if and when it reaches level 6 Football matches and concerts will probably have to be cancelled.Just thinking that this will probably eventually affect gigs.

I was wondering what everybodies opinion is on this and would you have wanted to do the gigs anyway if it gets worse anyway?

I doubt it will get much worse to be honest (but could be wrong).

I would still do gigs, it's only a bit of flu ;) Wait til man flu comes around again, that is real nasty lol

i had a similar problem years ago when i was in a band during the foot and mouth problems... loads of areas were closed off and we lost out on a load of gigs..... on the upside when the issue was done with we got more work than ever and a refund from the government for our ni payments.

on the other had i cant really see it getting all that bad..... after all think of the worry bird flu brought a few years back and that did not change anything

It's scary stuff though. Today in Nottingham we are being made to do a load of mock GCSE exams in case this flu took over and schools were made to close. The exam board have contacted the school and told them that GCSE'S would be canceled and they would use the mock results!

Here if it all goes then they may move them to another month, place each person in a room of there own with the whole school closed (most people sitting an exam at one time about 50 and we have over 65 rooms :D) or use the teachers estimated grades :p

Without knowing the ins and outs, I wouldn't disregard the fact that we have a scare like this every year or so, whether they be terrorist threats or virus scares. Then the threat is dealt with, and we feel safe and confident with our government... :zip:

At least everyone is aware of this and taking precautions. What would you people be saying if this story didnt have much hype and it did happean?

We had the same with a few viruses and because everyone knew about it we could prevent it getting much worse. I'd glady have the media hype up such stories because it brings it to peoples attention.

Quite correct, this time it certainty will get worse before it gets better, and this version does appear to be quite virulent, we already have secondary transmission in the UK. It only takes a few 'hero's' to get it this way, without realising it, and then struggle in to work coughing and sneezing, deluding themselves it's only a cold. We all know the type, you need to shoot them to keep them at home, I've personally caught a dose of flu off one of these idiots in the past. The one good thing, is the UK is the best prepared nation in the world to cope with it, which is a credit to the government, although the recent 'bird flu' scare triggered the stockpiling of Tamiflu. I hope it soon runs it course and dissapears but a couple of young people dying of it will create a panic and shut the whole place down just like it has in Mexico at the moment.

partly right as it is at the momoent it is not much worse than normal flu(it has not got the capabilities of killing humans to the degree that bird flu had) but has it is fairly new to humans and we have to watch how it mutates in us .then we will know how bad it is going to be.

As far as I understand, swine flu has now killed about 16 people in England, but virtually ALL of them had under lying health problems.

I think the number of healthy people killed can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

Therefore, the chances of a healthy person being killed by swine flu are probably roughly the same as being killed by a bolt of lightening.

That's right and every tall building owner in the UK has at one point invested in a lightning conductor!
There's no way the government are going to offer everyone in the UK a vaccine unless they had to.
I can see the MDD being a lot busier with people looking for short term cover as DJ's and their colleagues get this.

Charlie, if it gets to the stage where people are dying in their thousands, then I'll rightly get worried.

In the meantime, we should be just as worried about being killed from that bolt of lightning I mentioned in my previous post.

The little girl was diagnosed by her GP on Wednesday as having tonsilitis and died in hospital the following day.Sky news are also saying that A GP in England has died after contarcting swine flu.
I have to say to anyone on here who is very calm about it,would you be so calm if your own child suddenly became ill with a sore throat?

I'll start taking is seriously when people in my area get it badly. I don't see why I should get panicky when its still in early stages. Plus I don't get phased by it all tbh its just another strain of flu.

Yes and mostly in the Summer when it was predicted to be very weak compared to the winter
