Why was the thread closed down?

The thread was one of two things...

1) An existing member singing up under another username, for reasons unknown.
2) A forum troll posting nonsense to wind people up.

Neither of the above is welcome. Moderators have to check every thread/post on the forum. They have enough to do without having to sift through that type of crap.

I don't know about everyone else, but the reason I go on forums is to get tips, tricks and ideas that I can use to make my show better. On top of that is nice to relax and chill with like minded individuals. We've had our fair share of people that sign up and try to push the boundaries on what's acceptable, but I've a very low patience threshold with those types of characters. It's hard enough trawling through all the crap to get to the gems of information without puting up with 'morons/kids that think they know it all/trouble-makers'. Delete as applicable. From time to time we have to close down the occasional thread or get rid of 'dead wood', but it's the same on any forum.

On the whole though, 99% of the folks here are a fantastic bunch, and I really enjoy hanging out here reading up on the threads. :beer1: :beer1:

It's only a bad thing when it's not appreciated. We don't look for thanks. In fact we'd prefer it if folks took the time to read the rules and follow them so we didn't have to do anything at all. We're damned if we do and damned if we don't at times. There's always folks that try to see how far they can take things.

All of the Moderators have their own style of moderating. I know one or two people have taken offense at Darren at times. It's unfounded though. Daz is the kind of guy that says it as he sees it. Just because he owns the forum doesn't mean that he shouldn't have an opinion. At the end of the day it's "his house", respect his rules when your in his house or find another 'house' to visit. The thing is, Daz is one of the most helpful and friendliest guys you'll come across, if anyone seriously needed help he'd be one of the first to extend the hand of friendship and do all he can. What he wont do is suffer fools lightly.

He gives up more of his time than he should, and more of his own money than he should to make sure this forum remains as a place to hang out and as a source of information for us all. Yet some people still sign up to cause trouble and question the way he sees fit to run it. I'd get more than a little agitated if I was in his shoes.

Shaun is spot on, I don't suffer fools gladly and I know my own faults. I am snappy and should be more patient with people on here, but after 5 years or so it becomes increasingly difficult to do so.

Shaun is my right hand man and stays cool when I am about to blow my top and he also devotes a lot of time to not only helping run the directory and forum, but has also put a lot of time in to improve the listings site and to try and get it up to scratch after we lost several important databases when we moved servers.

This site is for people who want to better themselves - that is why we run it. I would love everyone to be earning a decent amount of money, whether they are part time or full time and that is what we aim to help with - getting the general public to take us seriously as a profession and getting them to pay more of us a decent liveable wage.

As Shaun says, we have to check most if not all thread to make sure that people aren't posting anything unsuitable or illegal and sometimes it is annoying when you are checking posts that say the same thing over and over again. That is when I might take offence to what is being said and yes as well as being an owner, I also have an opinion, so I will comment on it.

I have said the occasional thing that I regret on here, one of which was calling Rob James an idiot. I did mean it at the time, but it should not have been posted as I wouldn't let others get away with name calling. I genuinely like Rob, but like any circle of friends and colleagues, virtual or not, we all get on each other nerves at times. Rob, I apologise.

For those that don't see eye to eye with me, well that's life and not everyone will get on with everyone. I didn't much like Neil Deckstar, until I actually met him and we got on very well and had a good natter for a couple of hours in the end.

Those of you that do know me in real life or have chatted to me on the phone know that I would do anything for anyone in this industry. If I can help, then I will.

I have met a great many people on this forum, many of whom have become firm friends and these are people from all over the country. I have heard disgruntled ex-users of this forum complaining because the mods and admin always stick together on here. Yes, we do, because we know and trust each others judgement.

This forum is here as a resource which is why I do get annoyed, especially recently when absolute rubbish is posted. I'm not taking about opinions - I'm talking about out and out rubbish. I don't want the forum full of it. Neither do I like BS and can smell it a mile off.

Finally, I would like to thank Shaun for all his work and devotion to this place, especially when he has a lot of other things on his plate. :beer1:

as an ex mod on another site i appreciate the hard work that goes into doing the job,and can i say the mods on here are as fair as any forum i've been on,yes they stick together,that is part of the conduct,they might disagree behind the scenes but they will discuss any important matters come to an agreement then get on with it as one.imo the way it should be done for the good of the forum.mods have to read every post and it gets tidious the same drivel from the same people bringing up the same arguments at every opportunity
if you don't see eye to eye with any member then agree to disagree don't look out for their post so you can rubbish them and inflame arguments ,ignore them

Fair play to Darren credit wheres it due hes admitted his mistakes and in particular the Rob James incident which i commented on and did have an heated exchange with Darren himself. Like him I always say what I think and sometimes think afterwards that what i have posted was a mistake so for my part in that I would offer an apology. Like you said after five years of dealing with a forum I can understand why you would have a short fuse.

Agreed totally. Particularly:
1) Bettering ourselves. This site has dragged my rig forward about fifty years. It has cost money and anguish, but has been well worth it. I'd honestly never have done it without the support on here, particularly during my transition to digital.

2) Friends. I've been fortunate enough to make friends virtually, and in the flesh with some great people. I'm honoured.

3) Resource. I've spoken to folk who are regulars here, some who are very intermittent visitors, and even those who are not really fans. All agree unanimously that this place is a treasure trove of help and knowledge.

4) Admin/Mods/Authority. They have a job to do, in the main they do a superb job, one which I'm neither capable of doing, nor desirous of. Well done one and all. They're not perfect, but as they're human, I'm neither surprised or worried.
