Guys,

I have a school prom tonight and wanted your opinions on how to arrange my lighting to work best for me.

I'll be using my 4 foot ultimax stand with single overhead 2.5m bar. Lights are as follows:

Acme rover x2
acme dynamo x3 (one of my four still doesnt work)
impossibleds x2
kam star cluster 3d x1

I will be on a fairly high stage (5 feet)

i'm planning to run the rovers and dynamos with 2 ca-8 controllers but i'm not sure whether to use 3 dynamos or drop down to two as three may look odd. Also if i'm using 2 rovers and 2 dynamos which dip switches should be up and down on these 4 lights,
Cheers,

if it was me i would go
impossiled dynamo rover dynamo rover dynamo impossiled on the bar,
one impossiled pointing up and one down
the dip switches on the dynamos
light 1 ca8 pluged in dip switch 1 on all others off
light 2 dip switch 10 on all others off
light 3 all off
remember to start the dmx lead from light 1 out to light 2 in then light 2 out to light 3 in.light one needs to be turned on first when powering up then the other 2 ,then use the ca8 controller to turn them on and off all night.
can't help with rovers settings i've never used them

How about:

Dynamo - Impossibled - Rover - 3D Cluster - Rover - Impossibled - Dynamo?

both options sound good, Andyw's didnt include the laser and i really want to use it so i may replace the central dynamo with it, either that or have the laser behind me pointing at the large black back drop. what do you reckon?

personally i don't like just 2 dynamos (i am thinking of the 100w ones, i am not sure which version reminisce has).i am trying to think of how and what will run together. we run with 3 dynamos on their own and at the end of the night use the 3 with a impossiled pointing on the ceiling which we think gives a good show.
the 2 impossileds is a show by themselves. the cluster i assume will be pointing on the ceiling, leaves the rovers would they be best by themself or with the dynamos running (we used to use 2 scimiters and they were better on their own than with the dynamos)

will you get the best out it that way,i left it out purely because i don't think 2 dynamos are enough and i wanted to keep it symetrical.remember this is only my opinionand there no right or wrong.

I agree totally what you are saying, sorry if i sounded self righteous. Symmetry is very important to me and i want it to look its best tonight but not overkill!!

no you didnt come across like that, the thing with it is lighting is personal so you have a lot of messing around with different combinations to find out what works best for you.how bad would it look if you went
impos rover dyn dyn cluster dyn rover impos.
what version of dynamos do you have 100 or 250.
what do you plan running together.

I have the 100w versions. I was planning to run 3 dynamos together and 2 rovers together

I would use -

acme dynamo x3 (one of my four still doesnt work)
impossibleds x2
kam star cluster 3d x1

...that's more than enough light.
ImpossibLed - Dynamo - Dynamo + Kam star cluster - Dynamo - ImpossibLed

Don't need anything else IMO.
Saves on set up and pack down. :)

there is enough combinations with that set up to keep you going all night, penmare how would you run the star cluster,by itself/upside down with the other lights going,i've never used one myself was at a party the other week and the dj had one running all night pointing up but it was a low ceiling with lots of beams so it did not give that good an effect but i think it was more to do with the room than anything else

I wouldn't bother with the Dynamos - you only have a 2.5m bar and it will look really crowded if you use everything.

Was just thinking that!

Two Rovers and two ImpossibLEDs would fill your overhead, maybe you'd squeeze the Kam 3D in too, but that'd be all you'd need.

i agree.

i'd have it

ImpossibLEDs - Rover - kam 3D - Rover - ImpossibLEDs

dont foget to take a few pics.

Yeah but guys if it's a prom for 200+ 16year olds, won't he need a "bigger rig?"

Maybe, but he's still limited by the size of the rig he has, unless he has additional t-bars or more lengths of trusslite which he didn't mention in his original post.

We're only advising on what will physically fit on what he has told us he's got.

I would drop 1 dynamo to keep it symetrical. Then have the kam laser in the middle. The 2 dynamo's at the outside point with the impossibleds next inside and then the rovers either side of the laser.

Ths impossibleds should be kept apart as they have a very wide spread. And the laser can be left on pretty much all night as a wow factor. Then just run the dynamo's and the rovers as pairs at different times to allow each unit to cool then other unit to replace it.

then he will have 2 dynamos that don't work:) .i honestly don't think 2 x 100w dynamos will be enough to run on their own,in a hall with 200 16yr olds

Well he is at the gig now, so it's a tad late ;) We will just have to see how he get's on. :approve:
