Not a good start

I have a 25th wedding anniversary tonight.

The clients said I could set up at 3 in the afternoon , background music till 7 and disco until 12

So I arrived at the venue at 3 , to be told by the landlord " we shut at 3 and reopen at 6 , so there's no :Censored: point your setting up now" , oh well . it`s only 3 miles to home.
As I was leaving ,he shouts " what time do you think your playing to , as this pub is locked up by midnight , no exceptions "

er.......this has all the hallmarks of a great evening.....................not.

I've had gigs where I've been given a start time by the customer, and found out that the venue doesn't open until the start time! :eek: :bang: :bang:

sorry but been caught out too many times,being given 1 time by client and another by the venue,so i like to know everyone is in agreement from the start.

Anyway I managed to get access at 5:30 , to my surprise there was about 60 people in there.

Oh well , I set up as fast as I could and put a CD on for background music.
The guests were starting the buffet , so panic over for a while.
Little did i know that most of the guests came a long way , so had to leave early , the age group ranged from 6 to 80 , so the small children wanted some HSM and mille cyrus , followed by a glen miller and a few other old time classic`s ( for the oldest of the guests ).

Everything settled down about 8:00 , so on went the show.
I have 6 or 7 young ladies dancing all night , problem was , you could not have dress 2 girls for the amount of cloths they were / were not wearing ( I love this job :D ) .

Trouble was at 10:00 there were 8 people left :eek: .
The landlord called a halt at 11:30 ish , and that was that.
So not to bad considering the start.
Volume levels were lowish , mixer in the green with occasional orange ( no red :) )
EP 2500 on number 3 , I must admit , it was a nice volume , those that wanted to dance could still talk to each other without shouting .
About 9:30 , one of the caterers came over with a pint of ice cold coke and a plate of sarnies :D , that went down well.


Just a few things to note.

I use to have my 2 ADJ sprectrum FX`s pointing down at the floor , last night I angled them up to the ceiling , massive difference , led for led they were brighter than the impossibled , still bright at 70 ft away.
Next , wire the falcons up so I could turn them off and keep the rest of the lights on , the Revo rolls came into their own , on slow scan and barrel rotate they really worked . but on fast scan they produced long streaks of color over the dancers, I was amazed by this effect.

Over the last rew gigs , I have played either on a hollow stage ,or a suspended floor , the Class D CD15 ,I thought were always lacking a bit , last night was on a solid floor , I was often tweaking the low EQ down .

I can honestly say I am happy with both sound and lighting with this rig.
The venue was the half moon at Rake , near Petersfield , nice venue , rear acces down 5 steps ( And it was :Censored: raining).

Pleased to hear it went well for you. I like my revo rolls, they just aren't too good if there's a lot of ambient light. As for the 15SP's, they shouldn't lack bass. ;) :D I never have to turn it up on mine, I only run flat EQ.

I presume that on an hollow stage , or suspended floor , and being that subs are usually omni directional the sound is absorbed rather than reflected.
Had the EQ as follows.

High = flat
High-Mid = Flat
Low Mid = Flat
Low about 10 o clock.

Where as on the hollow floors/stage.

High = flat
High-Mid = Flat
Low Mid = between 1 and 2 o clock
Low about between 3 and 4 o clock.

Well they certainly werent lacking yesterday on the test bed in Yorkshire yesterday:D

Have you mastered the knack of lugging the CD15s on to a speaker pole or do you always put them on the floor:eek:

I have to admit its beaten me :bang:

But Excalibur has the knack--except for the odd bit of shredded finger flying about;)

Ah, no. Sorry, our fault. Crazy and I were assuming there was an SP following. I often use these cabs full range, and there's no shortage of bass. I thinbk I led Alan into that one. Sorry again. :o :o :o :o

I've also got the 15N's which sadly are not suitable for our cowboy friend either. :( :( Much thinking currently going on.
