I was supposed to be doing a party tonight for a load of 14 year old girls but as mentioned in a thread the other day, they changed their mind at the last minute and told me they had got in touch with thier original DJ (the one who let them down in the first place).

My last two weekends have been busy like that, with gigs on the Friday, Saturday & Sunday (yes - I have worked on two Fridays in a row!!!).

Making up for it this weekend, though.

Nothing tonight, apart from visiting a client to discuss the music for their wedding in a couple of weeks.

Nothing tomorrow.

Regular pub quiz on Sunday.

Funnily enough, my next disco is next Tuesday, which will be my first ever wedding disco that wasn't on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Presumably it's to save on their costs.

It's not that busy for me. :o

I was meant to be doing a joint 13th birthday party tonight but they decided to change the date last minute.....(they are still paying for half of tonight though) :sj:......Today I'm off out for lunch then with friends later on tonight :)

Tomorrow is the 80's night at the Yacht club which should be good. I have a few friends coming down to have a bit of a boogie, and then hopefully I will have them back at mine afterwards :approve:

Taken the rest of the weekend off to plant out my veg. Sadly only half of the beds are in a fit state because I've been slacking recently... so looks like a hard slog :p

Tuesday - Awards night, I ended up playing from 12.05 till 1, by the time all the awards and comedian etc. was finished in the other room. I'd been setup since 7 and didn't even have to play any background music.

Friday - Wedding + A Fundrasier

They are paying exactly the same amount as if is was on a Friday or Saturday.

As I've said before, the day of the wedding makes no difference to the amount of time & work I have to do, so that's why I charge the same.

Saturday : Engagement party at the Bricklayers arms in Midhurst ( 6ft celining so just a few floor mounted PAR`s )

Sunday :Making up leads for uplighting , 3m DMX and 3m iec to iec.
Continue to strip down the ryger tiny scans.

Monday: set up in garage and test/clean etc all the gear.

I've got a 60th birthday to do at a local social club, it's for a family I've worked for before.

Really looking forward to it as it's one of those easy going gigs, 180 guests, 'party favourites' playlist and all the beer you can drink! :beer1: :daft:

...and the best bit is it's a only £4.00 taxi ride home including a stop off at the post-gig kebab emporium! :D :D

That's Good, at the end of the day why should they pay more.

DJs often charge more to encourage custom on weekdays, as they're probably fed up of using their time up at weekends. Also, most of the popularity will say 'Yes' to Saturdays, and they can simply make more money.

It may be an inconvenience to your business plan ( never mind the clients) but im sure it hasnt escaped your attention that there is a general mood in the Wedding business --Hotels, Wedding Services etc that having a Wedding midweek is OFF PEAK to most businesses in that specalist area.

Its all over the TV--not that I watch that much these days.:D

The message is clear--Wedding Specialists make their money at the peak time which is Friday, mainly Saturday and the odd Sunday.

Any other time is BUNCE--an old expression that means money for nothing virtually.

If you had Discos every night of the week I doubt you would bother doing anything else--nor me:D

I know you have the tiresome job of carrying those heavy Mackie speakers etc--but seriously the public are starting to get wise to this strategy, although we dont cover a large number of Weddings we get our share--and there is a noticeable change in attitude, quite frequently we get the --giss us a Discount cos its a midweek Wedding enquiry.

I dont blame you for charging whatever you want--I do the same--I just think we all need to be aware of current trends--after all if everyone else is giving a discount why should the DJ be any different?

That is likely to be the clients view and I dont think because im worth it will wash in a very crowded competititve market often driven ( wrongly of course) by price in a recessionary period.

Maybe others have different views--I have recently knocked £100 off my normal fee for a Sunday Cowboy event and the same off a Friday Wedding in case you wondered.

Sounds a bit like my high school graduation last night (I was expecting it, it hasn't been any different for the last 8 years) only I did 23:15 - 00:00 & was on site from 17:20

I've only just recovered from mine.

Went down to Newquay, Cornwall for a 3 day VW festival.

Decided on camping, but being us, we thought we'd take some music with us.
After getting hold of a generator, I took down my back up gig box (Denon DNHD 2500 & DNX 050), one Cerwin Vega CVA 28, 4 LED par cans and an ImpossibLED :D

Few pics of the gear (none of the lighting, the alcohol took effect by the time it was dark) and yes, the cables may have been a mess but it wasn't a function, just us messing around!
