PayPal Scam

Hi Guys,

I just got a scam email from PayPal which I thought I should warn people about.

The email I received was a PayPal receipt saying that I had spent 100 GBP to a company called Play and Connect Ltd.

I have not spent any money from my PayPal account recently and I am absolutely certain what the last transaction was for, but it still shook me a bit.

There is a link in the email to cancel the transaction, which when looking - the website link shown to us looks ok, but hover the mouse over the link and you will see that the link is quite different and actually doesn't even go to the PayPal website.

Another trigger that give it away as being a PayPal scam was the email address that the email came from - [email protected] - The domain name isn't paypals at all, it's paypal.

Play and Connect Ltd's PayPal email address is apparently [email protected] and so be weary of accepting anything from this email address, as if one thing is a scam then you may well get another scam from the same email address ([email protected]).

The product that I had supposedly bought from Play and Connect Ltd costing 100 GBP was called:

750 Gold
Item number 103 , uid: 1400473058 , uid2:

The item recently purchased with my Paypal account was a Gold membership renewal on another DJ site and the email actually looks pretty legit. I'm guessing this has probably caught a lot of people out already.

At a guess, clicking the "cancel transaction" link will take the user to a page, looking much the same as PayPal, and will then ask you to login.

Logging in will then provide the scam people with your PayPal username and password and then they will steal your money.

I hope this warning reaches you all in time! I've got the weekend off and will be in tent city at the "Glastonbudget" bash hoping for clear skies.

I get tons of these too. I used to contact paypal letting them know of the spoof emails. I get too many these days though, so I tend to just delete them now.

I get quite a few of these too, but I've never bothered to contact Paypal, as I'm sure millions of other people are already doing that.

I just delete them.

Correct, I have checked out the address and it's of no connection whatsoever to 'Paypal'.

Con Artists are buying domains like
paypals.co.uk
paypal123.com

and similar ones, so watch out for it.

I get tons of these too, the best thing is just to delete them. Surely people know what they have spent in PayPal as i'm sure many members on here don't use it that often unless buying off Ebay as alot of online stores have a secure online payment merchant.

I love the ones that start....

...."Dear beloved friend, I urgently need your help. I am the only living relative of my recently departed father who has left $3.5 million to me, I must deposit this money....blah blah blah"

...I occasionally forward them to my spam email account and respond with a torrent of four letter words, I know it does no good but it's great for venting frustration and makes me feel better! :D
