Ford Transit Connect

Apologies if this is the wrong section, but does anyone have any experience with the Transit connect?

Is it as reliable as its big brother, economical, spacious, etc etc. Your thoughts are apprecated.

I have also been told that, but they said the same thing about a Fiat Panda if i remember right!.........

My uncle recently got one, and ive used it for a few gigs and they seem nice, and he is also happy with it, money wise (brand new). etc etc

The one with the side door is an ideal choice, as is the diesel model, a friend at work has a 56 plate diesel for sale for £3200, had a slight bump on the front but fully repaired, I am seriously thinking of buying for that price....:)

Yeah sidedoor is good, easier for loading the whole van without actually getting in it, I want to buy one when I can, most proberly 2nd hand.

Funnily enough, I'm also looking for a Transit Connect at the moment, although I haven't found exactly what I'm after yet.

Most of them either have the side loading door, which I dont want, or the mileage higher than I'd like.

Needless to say, I did my research on these vans beforehand.

A mechanic told me they are extremely good vans, I also understand they've won the What Van (or is it Which Van) small van of the year award on a number of occasions, and I've also read some extremely complimentary reviews of them online.

I'm hoping to get mine in the next few weeks, but it depends what I can find in that time, so I think it might take longer.

My own budget is £5,000, although I'm looking for something which has 40,000 or less on the clock, and less that 30,000 would be even better.

Just found out tonight that my friend has 2 connect vans, both 56 plates, one has just over 50k miles going for £3200, and another with 70k miles which is in mint condition, not quite sure of price, but very tempting..:)

For carrying equipment round in, you'd want a Vivaro/transit size ideally. Put a couple of 18" Subs in the connect, and you'll almost fill most of the floor.

You could easily fit a small rig in it, but wasted money if you do a medium to large event.

If I was you, I'd definately be arranging to look at it, as that seems like a really good price, and the good value ones are never around for long.

The Transit Connect seems to be a similar size to my current Courier (Fiesta) van, in which case it could probably take all my gear twice over!

When I hire vans I choose Transit connects over Citroen Berlingo's. They are great vans in my opinion and if I am to get a van in the next few months the connect will be my choice.

On the short wheel base version which I'm getting, the passenger seat folds flat to give a total load area of 3.4 cubic metres.

This is about twice what I need, although I don't have too much gear.

However, they also make a long wheel base version where the roof is probably about 6 inches higher. With the passenger seat folded down, this version has a load area of 4.4 cubic metres.

All depends on what you class as a big rig, Is it in flightcases?

Also how you load the van too will determine how much you can get in.

That's just what I'm doing, Darren.

As I've already said, my gear would probably fit in twice over, and that's without the seat folded.

I was merely making the point that you can create more storage by folding down the passenger seat if required, but my van will be plenty big enough with having to do that.

My first choice would be a Transit Connect (but unlike Rob, I'd want a side loading door :p ). Unfortunately my current budget didn't run to nearly enough (finally spent £600 on an Escort Van).

Hopefully in several months time I should be in a better position to spend £2k-£3k on a van so would possibly be looking for a Transit Connect then. I reckon my Escort van should sell pretty quickly too and not make much of a loss on it. :D

I have a Peugeot Expert and it has 2 rear doors that open 180degrees and also 2 side loading doors.

Makes my load in and out so easy!

Transit connects are a good van, but it my opinion depending on the size of gear you have it may be a tight squeeze.

Yeah I guess if you've got LOADS of gear you might be better off with a Transit Luton with a tail lift :D :D :D

Why don't you like side loading doors Rob? Mine makes my life a lot easier.

I just find it easier opening the rear doors and having a nice large area which I can bring all the gear out through.

The side doors have a smaller area to get the gear out of, so I wouldn't find it so easy.

As Justin said, I also don't like the long slot which is used for the runners of the sliding door at the side.

At the end of the day, it's just my preference.

The following post shows the difference between the two, and I think the one without the side door looks a lot neater.
