Can you believe this?

I set up last night, 2 tops and a sub and was doing a sound check. I had played about 30 seconds of music at a not very loud level and said the normal stuff on the mic to get eq and levels correct when a man came over to me and started complaining about the volume!

Why haven't you got a feedback, he said. A what, I said. It turns out he means a db meter....

After I had told him that I had been working the venue for over 20 years and was setting the gear up and was well aware of sound levels, he walked off, saying he "Didn't want to talk to me anymore" Unbelievable!

I noticed he had hearing aids too.

The funny thing was, I was playing with a soul singer who was a lot louder than me and he said nothing about that!

We've all had this sort of thing happen, Darren.

At several functions in the past I've had young men and women coming up saying "Can you turn it down a bit please? We're tryin' t'get the bairn t'sleep!".

I mean, we all know that disco parties are the best places for sleeping babies, don't we?? :doh:

Darren, you should have mouthed some words to the guy (as if you were speaking to him), but not actually said anything...like Basil did to the old woman with the hearing aid in Fawlty towers!

No. Not with these ones.

However, I was once soundchecking in a church hall (new venue to me and I didn't realise the church was built on to it - we came in the back way and I didn't notice!). I was all set up and started the soundcheck. I was trying to find my lowest levels to make the sound-to-light features work. I was just three green lights up on the mixer when this rather ugly woman came in and shouted "Do you mind turning that off? You're disturbing the priest's sermon!". I had to wait another 40 minutes before I could do any soundchecking!

Turned out to be a good party, though!

I can belive it yes. Just have to laugh to yourself about it when hes left. These people are two a penny like the bedroom jocks coming up to you telling you real djs use vinyl or can his mate do some Mcing on the mic!
