Do you enjoy the Summer nights?

The wedding I did last night had gorgeous weather all night long although roasting indoors.It looked gorgeous for guests sitting out and relaxing but obviously doesn't get dark in the function room until around 10/10.30.
Just wondering how most people feel about working during the summer(nice weather apart) given the fact that your lights might not really be effective unil the last 3rd of the night?

I also had a wedding last night.It was at pettycur bay hotel burntisland,What a great day it was weather wise and to top it of what a fantastic view over the forth.

Personally i hate the "great weather summer nights" not because of the light in function halls,its because i am always going out to work when everyone else round about are planning garden parties\bbqs,so i always miss out.

Last nigth wasnt to bad for me in the heat as the room was nicely air conditioned so lots of people stayed in with me :) We did nt start until 9pm either so was already starting to dim. I must admit kids parties etc in the bright sun with few lights is a bit on the annoying side but we grin and bear it. lol

It doesn't really bother me about the lights not being so effective, because there's not much I can do about it.

What I do hate about summer nights is not having people inside. My wedding last night had a garden on one side of the function room and an atrium on the other, so loads of people where outside.

Mind you, that's good in a way. Far too many peope turned up for the size of the room. If it was chucking it down they would've been screwed!

I done a kids party in a marquee for a village carnival on friday evening. Agreed with the organiser and I simply used a laptop connected to a mixer amp and couple of speakers. Lights etc would be wasted. Got everything into the marquee and it was roasting. In the end we decided to run an extension and actually hold the party outside. What a great party, good fee and less than 5 minutes to setup / pack away. That is what I call minimilistic.

I was a bit concerned at the lack of equipment especially as I had increased my fee quite a bit since the previous year. However everyone enjoyed the night and booked again for next year.

On the whole I must say I love summer nights when not working but not so keen when dj'ing.

Last nights 40th, 100 people, hardly anyone in the room until 10.30ish, played to an audience of about 25, then when they all came in, they all wanted requests,:bang: , struggled to fit them all in as the function finished at 12...!!. Got a tip from client, and they were well chuffed!!!:cool:

Last weeks suprise 21st, same thing, except the birthday had been playing cricket about 50 miles away, got caught in traffic on way back:eek: . Didn't get back til 9pm, supposed to start at 8pm. Then they all went outside, came back in at 11pm, all wanting requests, supposed to finish at 12, but played til 12.45.

The light issue is beyond my control unless there are curtains, so do the best with what i have to work with.

Geez some people are never happy are they? Summer nights are great!. Lights not being effective? course not but most people are outside enjoying the weather rather than being stuck in a hot stuffy room. Only thing you have to be careful of is working up a sweat loading and setting up equipment.

I think you're missing the point in that we all love the Summer Nights but not necessarily when dj'ing. In fact is there not a song called summer nights:)

But the sun can come out any night of the week? Its not just limited to friday and saturdays? I understand the effect it can have on peoples behaviour at gigs (ie being outside, being too hot to dance, lights being ineffective) but dont think its a proplem myself
