View Full Version : Taking Mirrors Off

I managed to crack and chip two of the mirrors on one of my light effects, a local shop can make new mirrors to size but I'm struggling trying to remove the rest of the old mirrors.

The light in question is the Prolight Broken Swing

Has anyone else had to do this and if so is there an easier way than prising off the old mirror because it's breaking into small pieces and taking absolutely ages!!!!

On the dynamos when we had to replace the mirror was easy. Two screws and it was done.

Sadly these are glued on, and the glue is stronger than the mirrors. I've spent 3 hours and so far done about 1/2 of one mirror. If the local DJ shop can't do it I'll bin it and buy another.

Can you heat up the glue with a heat gun ?

Could you not glue a mirror pad over the top of the cracked mirror? Not sure how good it would look tho?

i think he just wants to seperate the mirror from the back, i done this on my dynamos by getting a craft knife behind but please be very careful of this method,the mirrors stil crack but was easier to seperate

Thanks for your suggestions, I did think about just putting a new mirro over the old cracked ones but I thought it wouldn't look good. I've tried a craft knife and screwdrivers but the glue is just too good, the mirror is coming off in tiny shards so I've given up.

It's going in tomorrow for someone to look at, but given the prices of these lights it will probaby be cheaper to buy a new one.

OK I watched an expert take the mirrors off in about 10 minutes today, so should any of you ever need to do it, try this.

Smash the entire mirror in various points with a small hammer, apparently manufacturers never glue the whole mirror in place, smashing it allows the non glued sections to fall off and then you simply push down on the remaining bits (that's push down not prise off) which then slide away because they are not supported by the whole mirror anymore. According to the guy who did mine this is the safest easiest and fastest way of getting them off.
