I read loads of threads on this forum, some I reply to, others I just keep an eye on...but what seems to come up a lot is:
Not that you can really use smoke machines a lot now a days...
What is everyone on about!? I use smoke machines a lot more than I don't. Pretty much every gig the smoke machine will be used. I hardly don't not use it....
So come on, who uses it? Who doesn't like to use it? Who wan't to use it but cant, etc. :)

I have two smoke machines and 4 lasers....when I am allowed to use them I do with good effect.
Maybe 6-10 times a year. :)

It depends where you work Charlie. Most of the places I work are Hotels and the like and not many (if any) allow the use of smoke or haze due to some H&S policy, someone dreamt up.

I try always using my smoke machine when possible.

I think that's quite mean of your good lady. :( Mine lets me play with my toys more often than that. :p :D :D

I'd imagine everyone would be the same and say they use it if they can?

Not me, I don't like smoke machines. Hazers are much better.

Yeah this is true. I have done a few hotels and each time requested that they turn off their smoke alarms in that particular function room. One or two have done it, one said no, one didn't say anything and got the fire brigade instead :p
I guess a lot of my work isn't from Hotels yet :o which is why I can use it. One day :D

For me, the haze machine is better as it is translucent and doesn't make people start coughing as soon as you start using it. It highlights the beams nicely without turning the room into a smog. Have a look at the video on my website and you'll see what I mean.
It does what it is supposed to, makes your effects look better and doesn't pump out a great big puff of smoke which does nothing for your lights initially.

I very rarely get to use my hazer these days, for the reasons Daz has already stated earlier in this thread.

we would use it everytime, but in reality we can't so we always check in advance

Ah ok, well I understand now. It's a shame because the effect is great. What about this...http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=20746

It doesn't last very long and smells funny. A waste of time unless you just want to take a few promo shots (which is why I know it smells funny!)

You sure you didn't pick the 'Fart in a Can' spray off the shelf instead?

I would say that I use my hazer at about 3/4 of my gigs.
I know the venues in the area who forbid it but apart from that I give it a go.....I find that if you keep it sensible you can nearly always get away with it. :)

I would like to use a haze machine but must of the venues don’t allow smoke or haze.
I’m sure I probably could get away with it but I don’t want to risk it.

Same here.
I don't think I've used my smoke machine for at least 5 years now.
It's not because I don't want to, but because I'm not allowed to in most venues.
To be honest, it's been so long since I've used it that I forget to take it with me now...even to the very few venues where they CAN be used.

I use my hazer at probably 95% of gigs. There's only a very few places that don't allow it - generally hotels.

I use mine along with my hp 200 haze whenever possible,I do find that alot of venues now have smoke detectors fitted,so unfortunatly that means no smoke\haze
